Padres Complete Eaton Trade

The Padres completed the Adam Eaton trade, which now goes down as follows: I just don't understand the Padres unloading a decent young starter in Eaton, unless they were worried that they wouldn't be able to sign him after this year; but then, as Rotoworld suggested, maybe Chris Young is a younger, cheaper version of Eaton, who will continue to be young for some time, while Eaton still really hasn't fulfilled his promise.

Comments:
The Padres were not going to sign Eaton at anywhere near his asking price. We took a more detailed look at this deal a couple of weeks ago at Ducksnorts if you're interested.

Why would the Padres unload a "decent young pitcher in Eaton"?

Eaton has a career 4.10 ERA at home, 4.57 on the road. Career K/BB 164/399. He's 28.

Young, on the other hand, has a career 4.34 ERA, but 3.75 away from the hot air. Career K/BB (overall) of 55/164. He's 26.

Even better, his middle name is Ryan. He really ought to go by "C. Ryan Young." "C.Y." would also be good.

It seems like a pretty good trade for the Padres. They also unloaded Otsuka, who's 35. And they picked up a backup outfielder and a backup first baseman who might not ever live up to his former first-round potential, but who also is only turning 24.
