Howie Kendrick Watch, Day 1: Kennedy Scratched Due To Knee Infection

Adam Kennedy was a late scratch in today's game because of an infection in his left knee. (In case you were wondering, it was his right knee that got jacked up when trying to field an Ichiro! grounder.) Considering he's had knee surgery before, I expect this will be something to watch for; and whether he'll do well or not at the major league level, Howie Kendrick is going to be on everyone's mind.

Comments:
The mlb.com article states that Kennedy has been put on oral antibiotics, so the infection probably isn't very serious. Rory and Terry also suggested it wasn't very serious.

One would hope. In this era of flesh-eating bacteria and antibiotic-resistant staph infections, I take nothing as a minor infection...

From what I recall, flesh-eating bacteria is onbe of the least resistant bacteria to penicilin, so that is no problem is they catch it early (and he is a major leaguer, so you have to imagine the best doctors and check it out as soon as it seems like something is wrong). Antibiotic resistant bacteria may be more troublesome, but those are fairly rare and aren't usually THAT dangerous for young, healthy men like AK.
