A Pair Of Sillies From The Brushback

The funniest sports news this side of The Onion, too... their AL preview is worth reading:
Strength:
Darin Erstad is in a contract year and he’s going to want to cash in. Just remember, Darin, to leave everything on the field this season, because when its over and you get that big contract you’ll never have to lift a finger for this stinking franchise again.

Weakness:
Garret Anderson is a consistent run producer but he’s over the hill. The Angels should find a quality backup for him just in case something happens, like his old, brittle bones disintegrate mid-game and he has to be vacuumed up with a dustbuster.

... as is this bit about Jim Tracy's new role in the Pirates organization:
Since Pittsburgh Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon was fired last winter, the team has undergone some significant changes both in the clubhouse and on the field. The person charged with leading the young, inexperienced team is new manager Jim Tracy, who has ushered in a sense of pessimism and negativity that’s beginning to catch on around the clubhouse.

“A lot of times a new manager will bring a sense of optimism to a team, a sense of rebirth and renewal,” said shortstop Jack Wilson. “But this is a lot different. Jim has given us a sense of negativity and horror. The first thing he said to us on the first day of spring training was ‘Let’s not even bother trying this year. Someday we’ll all be dead and buried in the dirt and nobody will give a damn if we made the damn playoffs, which we’re not going to anyway, so screw this shit.’ Then he went home for the day.”

The next day, Tracy announced that he planned to be a lax, apathetic manager and would not require the players to do extra drills to work on their fundamentals or require them to have more accountability.

Actually, maybe I'm wrong about that -- it kinda does remind you of the Tracy of old...
