Preseason Fluff
- The Snakes have sent Stephen Drew to the minors. Stephen is Dodger J.D. Drew's younger brother, and the Diamondbacks' number one prospect in their system according to Baseball America.
- Speaking of J.D. Drew -- is baseball a kind of ministry?
"God's blessed me with a lot of talent to play the game of baseball, and I want to honor Him by playing it to the best of my ability and working as hard as I can," Drew said.
Drew said he thinks about the example he sets, especially when times are difficult. And he's had his share of those times. Though skilled as a baseball player, Drew has had trouble staying healthy in his professional baseball career. He has reached 500 at-bats only one season during his seven-year career.
"There's going to be ups and downs," Drew said. "There are going to be times when you're angry at yourself for not playing as well as you think you should. It's how you handle those things that -- I think -- makes people realize that you stand for something, that you have something to fall back on."
- Via BTF, former Dodger Marquis Grissom is having a rough spring with the Cubs, hitting only .200. He still thinks he can get the job done, but at 38 it's really up to Dusty.
- Roy Campanella will appear on a new stamp as part of the Postal Service's new series about sluggers.
- The Weaver brothers are getting along better than they did as kids.
"We were six years apart, and when I was in high school and he was nine or 10 years old, he was kind of the nagging little brother who wanted to go everywhere, hang out with the big boys," Jeff said.
"It was kind of that usual sibling love-hate relationship."
Unfortunately, we are significantly limited by our "mortalness" and don't always do the glory thing as we should -- something Drew sort of hinted at in his comments. That's when it's awesome to know that God doesn't expect 100% perfection from us (contrary to some people's expectaions of us), only that we continue in our commitment to Him. Because He loves us in this way and because He has done so incredibly much for us, we WANT to keep working hard at bringing God glory as best we can. That's what makes it a ministry.
Hope that didn't take up to much time/space...but there were no other posts anyway ;)
