Roster Notes
Non-fluff roster notes:
- Eric Gagné will open the season on the active roster; he had a two-day suspension pending from last season. His appeal is expected to be heard in late April.
- Felix Hernandez was a late scratch due to shin splints, but the M's are being very protective of their young pitcher.
- In the absence of Jeremy Reed and his broken hand, the Mariners are testing Joe Borchard in center as a medium-term replacement.
- Erubiel Durazo was released by the Rangers. He was hitting .217 in spring training.
- Jeff Bagwell's season was expected to start on the DL; his entire season was in doubt. Now, the Astros' insurance claim has been rejected on the grounds that the team had played Bagwell in September and October. "Connecticut General determined that there had been no adverse change in Mr. Bagwell's condition between the end of last season and the date the policy terminated on January 31, 2006." Ouch.
- The Padres moved a trio of players to the minors, releasing Brian Sikorski, outrighting RHP Jason Anderson and 1B Walter Young, and optioned catcher Pete Laforest.
