The Genius In Oakland Of Your A's Ownership

So the A's have stripped Oakland off their away jerseys:
Are the A's intentionally wearing the green road jerseys that say "Athletics" instead of the gray ones that say "Oakland"? In the season's first trip, which ended Thursday, they wore green for all seven games.

"He's already in the process of purging `Oakland' from the team jerseys. It's no accident that you haven't seen the road grays," one fan opined regarding new owner Lew Wolff.

That theory has some merit, given Wolff's talks with Fremont (and non-talks with other municipalities that may or may not be eligible to discuss the location of the A's potential next home at an as-yet-undetermined date). Re-branding the team was also one of the first moves Arte Moreno made in Anaheim, changing the "Anaheim" wording to "Angels," and now we have the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

A's spokesman Jim Young said minimizing the Oakland connection has nothing to do with it. "In the past, the starting pitcher has the choice on what uniforms to wear," he said.

Within the week, I expect to hear from Rob Neyer how the A's removing their city affiliation from their uni's is a stroke of genius.

Comments:
Arte puts up with all the grief and name-calling but Wolff and The Gap Ownership cry poormouth all the way to being glorified as "thinking outside the box" by merging a baseball franchise into a billboard for a Fremont, California condo development...
