Let My Pirates Go: Pirates 7, Dodgers 6

Tired Ricky Ledee

Ricky Ledee fights to stay awake

When Earl Weaver-style offensive barrages fail, it's time to look at the pitching. First out the door this year was Eric Gagné, who started the year on the DL. Will Carroll says the Dodgers aren't being forthcoming with their information about their former Cy Young winner; no surprise there. Most teams do that.

But the side effects were twofold: first, letting Jae Seo stay in too long. Perhaps Little did so in hopes of staying out of the bullpen to the maximum extent possible, or perhaps to scratch a misguided itch to let Seo collect a win against a perceived easy mark. But whatever the reason, it backfired, letting Seo stumble his way into giving up five earned runs. The second effect was to put "All Star" Lance Carter on the mound, thus giving up the game winners. Winners.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have identified this year's Scott Erickson, with Jim Tracy in the role of the blind squirrel. Did Jose Cruz, Jr. feel sick enough to beg out of the lineup? Then why couldn't that bug infect Seo and Carter?

Update: Before anyone asks, I'm having server hosting problems again that will require some senior people at our hosting service to get straightened out.
