News
Ahh... now that feels better. MILB.com's new data structure is a lot simpler to decode and actually less stress on their servers, so it's easier on them as well. That's good.I have yet to update the 2006 watch lists, so don't be surprised if there's a player or two mentioned in BA or some other place that hasn't been bolded.
There isn't much in the way of news going on this early in the season, although I do refer you to this MILB.com story regarding R.A. Dickey heading back to AAA Oklahoma. See, I told you he didn't belong on a major league roster. The Rangers recalled Rick Bauer, who doesn't seem like he'd be much of an improvement.
Games
2006-04-06: Salt Lake 9, Tucson 3 #
Aybar, E: 3-5, 1 3B, 3 RBI, 1 K
Kendrick, H: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
McPherson: 1-5, 1 2B, 3 K
Morales: 0-5
Gorneault: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Napoli, M: 4-5, 1 2B, 1 K
Murphy: 2-5, 1 K
Pride: 1-2, 2 BB
Willits, R: 2-3, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Saunders: (W, 1-0), 6.0 IP, 2 ER, 8 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 3.00 ERA
Somebody needs to shake the strikeouts out of McPherson's bat. Meanwhile, Aybar goes 3-5, and Mike Napoli starts 4-5. K-Mo (I have a patent on that name, by the way, and Kenmore, too) gets the 0-fer, though. He'll be back. Stephen Drew homered for the Sidewinders in his first AAA at-bat, while Tucson starter Kevin Jarvis got knocked around for six runs, four earned.

Gregg: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Edgar Gonzalez took a loss that really should have been Brian Bruney's considering the number of runs allowed (three vs. six, respectively). Bruney melted down in the eighth and only managed a pair of outs while Tommy Murphy blasted a three-run homer, Dallas McPherson doubled to drive in Howie Kendrick, and three-true-outcomes hero Mike Napoli -- now hitting .444 on the young season -- walked ahead of Murphy's shot.

Aldridge: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 13.50 ERA
Maybe Adenhart should have taken a bat into his own hands... the opposition starter was Brian Duensing, a collegiate pitcher from the University of Nebraska who had a 4-3, 2.32 ERA at Elizabethton in the Appalachian League last year. He was a 3rd round pick for the Twins; Duensing whiffed seven Kernels in this game over 5.0 IP. Good for him, but you can start to see the thinness of the Angels farm system in the lower levels now.

Just wanted to be the first to thank you again for this great feature. This is why 6-4-2 is my homepage in Safari.
Also:
D-Mac's K's don't worry me. If projected to 600 AB's last year he hits 25 HR, drives in 75 with 30+ doubles. Yeah he K's almost 200 times, but the only way he gets better at the Major League level is by playing in Anaheim. AAA really doesn't teach him anything, I don't think, especially in his age 26 season.
Also, nice to see Napoli hit the ground running in SLC. I wonder if Scioscia and Stoney actually give him a legit shot to be part of a two man duo next year with Mathis.
Lastly, I hate that Molina looks to be the starter while the young above average prospect sits on the bench 75% of the time...

I forget where I heard it, but there was an interesting factoid about how there were only three teams in baseball history who even went to the World Series with a rookie starting behind the dish.
Vin Scully mentioned it during the freeway series. I hadn't heard that either before that.
Anyway, I just wish that it was more of a job share - 3 starts for Mathis, 2 starts for Molina...
That would get Mathis about 300-330 AB's and Molina about 200-220 AB's. That seems about right to me. I just don't want Mathis to lose this year by getting 100 AB's.
Anyway, we'll see how it shakes out.
