Gorneault: 0-1, 1 K
Weaver, Jer: (L, 1-1), 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 9 H, 6 K, 0 BB, 2 HR, 3.75 ERA
After today's start, Jered Weaver might be more than a phone call away from the majors. Ah, but everybody has a bad day now and then, especially on an 87 degree night with a 10 MPH wind blowing to outfield. Dallas McPherson played an errorless first base, but struck out in all three at bats. Weaver gave up both of Las Vegas's homers.

The Travs ran out of rallies as they got single runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings, kindly donating a win to the Wranglers, who hadn't had one before tonight. Brandon Wood K'd three times along the way, and Stephen Shell didn't get out of the fifth, giving up six runs, but only two earned thanks to a Brandon Wood error. Oops.

That would be twelve scoreless innings for Rafael Rodriguez. In the Cal League. Yeah. Meanwhile, Drew Toussaint blasted a pair over the fence (yes, this is a hitter's league), one of them a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fourth that sparked a six-run romp. Collins going 2-4 with a double, an RBI, and a walk shouldn't be overlooked.

The Kernels turned a triple play, the fourth in team history, along the way to a shellacking of Mariners affiliate Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
Cedar Rapids had a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Wisconsin put runners at first and second with none out. Jeff Flaig sent a low liner to Kernels shortstop Hainly Statia that was ruled a trap. Statia tagged out Michael Saunders, who was caught off second as the umpire hesitated to make a call. Statia then flipped the ball to second baseman Ryan Leahy, who threw to first to complete the fourth triple play in Cedar Rapids' 44-year history. The offense came from a largely anonymous group of Angels, who picked the pocket of the unfortunately named Paul Fagan to the tune of six runs in his first appearance this year. Catcher Brett Martinez drove in three by himself.
