Scores

2006-04-14: Portland 1, Salt Lake 6 #
Aybar, E: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Kendrick, H: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Gorneault: 1-4, 1 2B
McPherson: 0-4, 3 K
Napoli, M: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Morales: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Murphy: 1-3
Willits, R: 1-3, 1 2B
Bootcheck: (W, 1-0), 5.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 2.25 ERA
Olenberger: 3.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 6.43 ERA
D-Mac continues his adventures with vitamin K, unlikelies Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar both homered, Kendrick's first in AAA. Chris Bootcheck got more walks than strikeouts, so it was a good night for offense, and bad night for everything else.
2006-04-14: Arkansas 10, Wichita 5 #
Bacon: 2-6, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Peel, A: 4-5, 1 2B, 3 RBI
Wood: 0-5, 2 K
Brown: 2-5, 1 K
Eylward: 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Wilson: 4-5
Porter: 3-5, 2 RBI, 1 K
Rodland: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Bittner: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 2.25 ERA
Brandon Wood's now hitting .267 and is 0 for his last three games. Suffice to say he's having some trouble adjusting to the Texas League, yet last year's performance in Rancho gives us some little confidence he will eventually adjust. The Travs tied this one in the sixth and moved ahead in the eighth on a wild pitch and a pair of RBI singles, one by Greg Porter, and the last by Aaron Peel. Peel has no power, yet he hits. He could be interesting in an all-average kind of way.
2006-04-14: Rancho Cucamonga 5, Lancaster 4 #
Fuller: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 K
Sandoval, F: 2-3, 2 BB
Toussaint: 2-3, 2 2B
Remole: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Duff: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Sutton: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Arredondo: 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 9 K, 1 BB, 1.80 ERA
Pete: (BS, 2)(W, 1-0) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2.25 ERA
Lynch: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Nine strikeouts by Arredondo over five innings. Lancaster scored the go-ahead run in the seventh, but Rancho came right back in the eighth on a rally sparked by a HBP on Drew Toussaint, who reached base five of six times.
2006-04-14: Cedar Rapids 4, Wisconsin 2 #
Coon: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Renz: 1-1, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Madrigal: 2-4, 1 K
Edwards: 1-2, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Marek: (W, 1-0), 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 3 K, 3 BB, 0.77 ERA
Hawkins: 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.57 ERA
Didjurgis: 1.2 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
All Angels affiliates won their games today, which doesn't happen too often, I can tell you. A mediocre game for Stephen Marek; hardly any strikeouts.
2006-04-14: AZL Angels did not play
2006-04-14: Orem did not play
2006-04-14: Las Vegas 3, Sacramento 4 #
Aybar: 0-4, 3 K
Ethier: 2-4
Guzman, J: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Young, D: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Valdez: 2-4
Juarez: 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 2 HR, 1.80 ERA
Gonzalez, L: (BS, 1)(L, 0-1) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 3.38 ERA
I listened to the early part of this game, and Vegas had several chances to win this one, but pitching wasn't quite good enough and Sacramento got the hits when they needed them. Willy Aybar's three strikeouts were part of the reason why.

Update: What I missed in this game — something the Times pointed out today — is that the Dodgers have moved Joel Guzman to first. Hm...

2006-04-14: Montgomery 3, Jacksonville 4 #
Ruan: 2-6, 2 K
Abreu: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Kemp: 0-4, 1 BB
LaRoche: 2-6, 1 RBI, 1 K
Ruggiano, J: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Hu: 1-2, 1 BB
Hanrahan: 5.2 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 7 K, 4 BB, 1 HR, 3.48 ERA
Alexander: (W, 2-1) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Seven strikeouts for Joel Hanrahan: good. Five hits and four walks: eh, don't call us, kid, we'll call you. Ruggiano, a kid I liked from last year but who failed to make any of the top prospect lists this year, is heating up. His home run in today's game caps a pair of back-to-back multihit games after going 3-20 in his first six games.
2006-04-14: Vero Beach 1, Brevard County 2 #
Hoffmann: 1-3
Paul, X: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Dewitt: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Denker, T: 0-4
Rohan: 2-4, 1 RBI, 2 K
Merricks: 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 12 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Troncoso: (BS, 1)(L, 0-2) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 5.40 ERA
No, 2000 sixth-round pick Matt Merricks is not a prospect, not at 23 in high A for the fifth time with his third organization (actually, LA for the second time). But you still have to tip your cap at that many strikeouts. Too bad Vero's bats couldn't support him.
2006-04-14: Charleston 1, Columbus 2 #
Pedroza: 0-2, 2 BB
Mitchell: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI
Apodaca: 0-2, 2 BB
Rivera: 0-3
Bastardo: (W, 2-0), 5.1 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 0.87 ERA
This game was decided in the fourth on a wild pitch and an RBI triple from Russell Mitchell.
2006-04-14: GCL Dodgers did not play
2006-04-14: Ogden did not play

Comments:
i've had patellar tendinitis for almost 2 years now. it's been getting better recently, but obviously since it's been so long, you can see that it lingers for ages, so i kinda don't blame gerut for wanting to get it fixed. i wonder what the surgery does exactly, though.

Vishal, from what I've read the surgery is an excision.

Jose Arredondo continues to impress. He's still just learning how to pitch, so I would expect him to stay in the Cal. League all year. It's still early, but if he continues at this rate, the Angels 2008 rotation could look something like Lackey, Santana, Weaver the Younger, Adenhart and Arredondo. Lackey would probably be making as much as the other four combined.
