Pickoff Moves
Today's Birthdays
Leo Burke LAA b. 1934, played 1961-1962
Mike Kinkade LAN b. 1973, played 2002-2003. The PrePodesta answer to Mike Edwards, Kinkade is now an Albuquerque Isotope; and how does that make you feel, Mike, being a reserve player who can't even crack the Marlins' weak 2005 squad? I mean, criminey, they tried Alfredo Amezega in center as a starter.
Mike McCormick BRO b. 1917, played 1949, d. 1976-04-13
Les Webber BRO b. 1915, played 1942-1946, d. 1986-11-13
Youth Kicked: Blue Jays 13, Angels 3
Mugshot of an alien
And just for the record, I really hate Gustavo Chacin's mugshot. Why does the Blue Jays organization allow a guy to have his photo taken with sunglasses on? Makes him look like a Cylon or somethin'.
Water In A Dry Country: Dodgers 4, Brewers 3
Another one I missed because of the Travs game, the Dodgers survived some pitching implosions, though not too many, and Nomar — who now has his R back since leaving the Red Sox — gets the clutch single. Hopefully more of the same to come, though I don't get out of this paragraph without noting the fine rookie effort by catcher Russell Martin, who went 2-4 and drove in half the Dodgers' runs.Roster Notes
- Tim Salmon has a strained groin that's limited him to six hits in his last 32 at bats.
- Bartolo Colón is throwing long toss from 120 to 130 feet.
- Odalis Perez has been placed on the bereavement list. His status with the team once he returns is unknown, though the team has yet to commit to either of Aaron Sele or Chad Billingsley to replace him in the roster.
- Bill Mueller will sit out another couple games but is expected to stay off the DL as a precautionary MRI revealed no structural damage.
- Eric Gagné, failing to note the irony that accompanies the lack of nerves in his forearm, said his arm is "feeling the best he has all year, including spring training".
- Ken Macha says it's "very extremely highly doubtful" Milton Bradley will be in working order this weekend.
- Every dog has his day, but yesterday wasn't Bobby Jenks', as he blew up for three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning against the Royals.
- Giants starting outfielder Moises Alou will go on the DL after a side sprain.
