Sickels: Ethier Vs. Pie Smackdown
No, not pie as in punch-and-pie, but Felix Pie. John Sickels takes two very disparate players and tries to figure out who he likes better, taking Andre Ethier because he has "slight advantages in intangibles and performance" and "the Cubs don't exactly have a strong track record helping guys like [Pie] develop" (read: Corey Patterson).
Comments:
By saying "the Cubs don't exactly have a strong track record helping guys like [Pie] develop" is he referring solely to Corey Patterson? Because if he is, I find it annoying that just because one prospect similar to another busted prospect comes along, all of a sudden it is perceived an entire organization can't develop a certain type of player. Now, if there are other similar players to Patterson/Pie that the Cubs have failed to develop, disregard this. But one player is pretty small sample size, and I don't see why it is presumed it is the Cubs' fault that they couldn't develop one tools goof and why that dooms them for the next one. I mean, they are not the first nor last team to have one of those types bust, reasons that could have more to do with the individual player or hype than anything they could control
