2006-06-20: Salt Lake did not play
2006-06-20: Arkansas did not play
2006-06-20: Lake Elsinore 5, Rancho Cucamonga 2 #
Sandoval, F: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Collins: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Rodriguez, S: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K
Toussaint: 2-4
Rodriguez: (L, 1-7), 5.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 5.85 ERA
Simard: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 6.48 ERA
I have no confirmation of this, but it appears that this game started out on two innings of relief work for a possibly rehabbing Doug Brocail, who seems to be in the Padres organization. Michael Collins gave up a passed ball but it did not affect the outcome of the game. Lousy pitching and not enough hitting for the Quakes.
2006-06-20: Cedar Rapids did not play
2006-06-20: Orem 7, Ogden 5 #
Bourjos: 2-5, 1 K
Mount: 2-5, 1 K
Knazek: 3-5, 1 2B
Phillips: 1-4
Bell: (W, 1-0), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
The inaugural game for the Pioneer League, and Orem won the game on a strong performance by Trevor Bell, who is not a Bozo, yet is descended from one, &c. Bell, who had been pitching at extended spring training, was clearly sharp in this one. 15th-round pick, catcher Scott Knazek from Rider, NJ, went 3-5 with a double in his first professional game. A 10th-rounder in last year's draft, Peter Bourjos made his first appearance at this level (and if his Baseball Cube numbers are to be believed, this is his first appearance in a real league).

Orem led throughout, scoring four runs in the seventh partly on the strength of a single from SS Ryan Mount, one of two he had in the game. P.J. Phillips, drafted as a shortstop in 2005, played third to open the season; considering the scouting reports on him at the time, it's not surprising. He was seen as questionable to stay at short considering his size and lack of speed, so this is perhaps an early admission that his value lies more with his power bat. He also committed the lone Orem error in the game, good practice for making the Angels major league squad. It could have been worse, though: Ogden committed four errors, leading to three unearned runs in the game for Orem.

Not shown here, but I believe it was Anthony Sullivan who gave up three earned runs in this game; Aaron Cook, a 2006 draftee, gave up the other two.

Hoorelbeke: (BS, 4)(L, 0-2) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 3 BB, 1.70 ERA
Jacksonville continues to slump a bit as the Biscuits outpitched the Suns.
2006-06-20: Jupiter 4, Vero Beach 3 #
Paul, X: 2-4, 1 BB
Dewitt: 2-4, 1 BB
Dunlap: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 K

Castillo, A: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 4.78 ERA
Another case of the opposition outpitching the Dodgers.
2006-06-20: Columbus did not play
2006-06-20: Orem 7, Ogden 5 #
Rogowski: 2-5, 1 RBI

Jones: 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Josh Bell had a fine offensive opener; no word on who the J. Castillo is, but he pitched a good game.
2006-06-20: GCL Mets 1, GCL Dodgers 2 #
Lizarraga: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Diaz: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 4.50 ERA
Nunez: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Quintana: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Ah, here we go again. The Complex Leagues (AZL and GCL) both are maintained by the major league clubs, not by quasi-independent owners. As a result, the scores come in when they come in, which often isn't until noon the next day. A reminder that these games will be picked up in this space late.

Update: Here's the scores.

Comments:
I was at the Rancho game yesterday and Doug Brocail did indeed start. He was on a 15-20 pitch limit. I talked to him before the game and he said he felt great, but he hadn't gotten the adrenaline flowing yet.
