Minor League Scorebook

2006-06-22: Sacramento 7, Salt Lake 4 #
Aybar: 1-5
Willits, R: 1-2, 2 BB
Murphy: 1-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Kendrick, H: 1-4, 1 BB
Mathis, J: 1-5, 2 K
Eylward: 2-4, 1 K
Shell: (L, 3-3), 4.2 IP, 5 R, 2 ER, 11 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 3.25 ERA
Bland: 2.1 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 6.12 ERA
Steven Shell didn't survive the fifth; after getting in a jam caused in part by an Erick Aybar throwing error, he got a visit from pitching coach Charles Nagy — and then Shell proceeded to plunk Jason Perry, and surrender the inning's fourth run. It precipitated a callup of reliever Nate Bland, who retired Richie Robnett III on a swinging strikeout, but the damage was done and the Bees never recovered. Shell could be consoled by the fact that he outlasted Sacramento starter Victor Moreno by one out.
2006-06-22: Arkansas 2, Corpus Christi 8 #
Wood: 0-4, 4 K
Wilson: 1-3
Porter: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
Holcomb: (L, 0-5), 3.1 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 9 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 4.79 ERA
Three homers by the opposition combined with 15 strikeouts of Travs batters equalled a horribly lopsided loss, a terrible way to start the second half for Arkansas. Brandon Wood collected a golden sombrero. Ouch, ouch, and ouch.

The Angels organization signed outfielder Nathan Haynes, a former organizational player with the Angels. He most recently played in the Giants organization and for the indy Gary, Indiana Railcats; knee injuries limited his playing time with the Giants.

2006-06-22: Rancho Cucamonga 3, High Desert 4 #
Leblanc: 2-5, 3 K
Sandoval, F: 1-2, 2 BB
Collins: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 K
Rodriguez, S: 0-4, 2 K
Toussaint: 0-4
Lopez: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Sutton: 2-4
Gelinas: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 6.32 ERA
Jepsen: (L, 0-2) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 3.70 ERA
High Desert tied it in the eighth on Mike Stodolka's solo homer, and won it in the bottom of the ninth on a walkoff RBI single by Michael Gaffney. Kevin Jepsen took the loss.
2006-06-22: Cedar Rapids 2, Fort Wayne 3 #
Coon: 1-3, 2 BB
Statia: 0-4, 1 K
Trumbo: 0-5, 1 K
Infante: 2-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Adenhart: 7.1 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 9 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 2.11 ERA
Aldridge: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 3.21 ERA
Mattison: (L, 2-4) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 4.58 ERA
Nick Adenhart got a no-decision and a surprisingly small number of strikeouts as the Wizards took advantage of the bullpen in the 12th, scoring on a Jesus Lopez leadoff double, a sac bunt, and Seth Johnston's RBI single.
2006-06-22: Ogden 2, Orem 16 #
Bourjos: 4-6, 1 2B, 2 3B, 3 RBI, 2 K
Mount: 3-6, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Knazek: 3-5, 1 RBI
Phillips: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Johnson: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
O'Sullivan: 4.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Holler: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Okay, it's my turn to beat you up... Orem had a 12-run sixth as they walloped Ogden's bullpen. Peter Bourjos, Ryan Mount, and Scott Knazek all had fine offensive games, and catcher Knazek even stole a base. One of the runs in that inning scored on a bases-loaded balk off Kalen Gearhart, who had hit Tyler Johnson earlier to load the bags. Sean O'Sullivan also had a fine maiden appearance.
2006-06-22: AZL Angels 6, AZL Cubs 5 #
Fuller: 0-5, 5 K
Sweeney: 2-3, 2 BB
Conger: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI
Ryan: 3-5, 2 RBI
Castillo: 3-5, 1 K
Torres: 5.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 1.80 ERA
Leon: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Wow, the first day they played and the scores are in on time. What went right? Great opening game by first-rounder Hank "King" Conger, who had two of his three hits fall for extra bases. On the other side of the value tree, Clay Fuller struck out in all five of his plate appearances.
2006-06-22: Las Vegas 9, Tucson 8 #
Duncan: 0-3, 2 BB, 2 K
Loney: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Young, D: 1-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Riggs: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Guzman: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
Weber, J: 3-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Navarro: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Houlton: 0-3, 3 K
Carrara: 0-1, 1 K
Osoria: 0-1, 1 K
Houlton: 5.2 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 9 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 3 HR, 5.66 ERA
Carrara: (H, 2), 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.05 ERA
Miller: (H, 3), 0.1 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 1.29 ERA
Osoria: (BS, 3)(W, 1-1) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.66 ERA
D.J. Houlton failed to further his bid to return as a major leaguers, but the 51's won anyway. Former Angel Alberto Callaspo was 4-5 against the 51's including a solo homer, though he later committed a throwing error that allowed the winning run to get into scoring position. Alleged superstud Stephen Drew went 0-5 with three strikeouts. Dioner Navarro drove in the winning run on an RBI single. Joel Guzman was ejected by home plate umpire Jason Kiser in the ninth, and I would assume because it came after being called out on strikes that it was over arguing over balls and strikes. Update: Yes, it was.
2006-06-22: Montgomery 4, Jacksonville 2 #
Hu: 0-4, 2 K
Brazell: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Abreu: 0-4
Ellis: 2-3
Thomas: (L, 2-3), 4.1 IP, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 6.64 ERA
Wright: 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
The Suns made two errors, gave up a pair of walks, two wild pitches, and a passed ball in the loss. On top of it, A.J. Zapp was ejected in the eighth for arguing balls and strikes. It's going around.
