Rooting For The Devil: Giants 8, A's 7
While I was working on the slide show earlier today, I had the Fox Saturday afternoon game going, and of course it was the A's at the Giants; who to root for? With the Giants two games back of the Dodgers in the standings but the A's ahead of the Angels, that made a San Francisco win imperative. As so often happens, it seems you never get what you want in these matters, and indeed, Oakland pasted together what looked like an insurmountable five-run lead by the middle of the sixth. Yet somehow, the Giants worked back into it with former Angel Todd Greene's RBI single plating two and narrowing the lead to three.
But in the seventh, Barry Bonds plated Omar Vizquel from first, and there it stayed until the ninth. Mark Sweeney singled to lead off, and Oakland closer Huston Street unintentionally intentionally walked Bonds.
And then Ray Durham homered.
Mission accomplished.
