Good Bart Returns: Angels 4, Mariners 0
— Richie SexsonIt's hard to express just how much this sweep meant to the Angels, not least because it gave the M's as good as they got earlier in the season for their sweep of the Halos at home. Bart's good outing prevented him from going 0-5 on the season, actually at its numerical midway point on Friday. Since that game, the Halos are an undefeated 5-0.
In addition to being the Angels' first series sweep of the year, this also represents the first series all year the Angels have played without errors. That one follows the other is no coincidence, though the fact that it happened following Jeff Weaver's trade surely was.
The team won on an unlikely display of power from a pair of unlikely sources, Robb Quinlan and Orlando Cabrera. O-Cab's went over the fence and was nearly caught by Raul Ibañez, but popped out of his glove, and so Cabrera's on-base streak continues to an improbable 62 games. And don't look now, but Kendry Morales has a little four-game hitting streak going on.
Finally, of course, a good word about Bart's 91-pitch complete game; he still didn't have his velocity, but he was able to locate his pitches, and so for the moment Joe Saunders remains on the Salt Lake roster.
Also, the Angels are an undefeated 5-0, not 0-5.
