Jered Weaver To Miss Next Start, Dustin Moseley Called Up

According to tonight's telecast, Jered Weaver has been sent to the 15-day DL for biceps tendinitis. Dustin Moseley has been called up to replace him.

Update: Apparently Weaver won't be on the DL, but he will miss his next start, and one of the Angels' rookies will be optioned to Salt Lake.

Update 2: Now on MLB.com.

Comments:
what's interesting about this is some one will have to be removed from the 40 man roster to make room for Moseley.

There are a few guys at AAA that might make this insignificant (Jones, Gorneault); on the other hand, it could portend something very signifcant

I didn't know tendinitis was contagious.

on the other hand, maybe they don't need to make room on the 40-man roster - Stephen Smith's site, Future Angels, speculates there may only be 39 people on it currently.

My proposed six-man rotation isn't looking too shabby now that Escobar and Weaver will be missing starts. Less wear and tear on those two plus Colon. Only Lackey really suffers and there could be a way of getting him his regular starts if they wanted to exercise this idea.

Allow me to suggest that Chris "7.16 ERA" Bootcheck is that pitcher.

Is it possible that the team is showcasing Moesley and Saunders as trade bait?

Thomas: Yes, according to the probables, Moseley goes Monday, and Saunders Tuesday, in Weaver's and Escobar's slots respectively.

Interesting point, Brian. I come up with 38, though I thought Erstad had been moved to the 60-day DL, which would take him off the 40-man if true.

Michael: I suppose it's possible Moseley could be, but I sort of doubt Saunders will be. Remember Bill Stoneman doesn't generally make trades, and Saunders amounts to insurance for a strong-but-at-times-fragile rotation. It's called "depth".

Depth: It's why the signing of WTE, regardless of the results, was a good idea. I'm praying that Moseley gives up less than 9 runs.
