Minor League Scorebook
News
- Yesterday's starter for the River Cats, Jason Windsor, left the game early, and it turned out he was on a pitch count, which might mean a callup to Oakland in the very near future.
- Kelvim Escobar will be out until July 23, which almost certainly means a callup for Joe Saunders.
- As part of a string of recent roster moves for the Dodgers, OF Matt Kemp was demoted to AAA Las Vegas to make room on the roster for Ricky Ledee.
- Howie Kendrick and Brandon Wood were named Baseball America's AAA and AA Midseason Top Players respectively.
Other players to make the BA All-Star teams:
- AAA: Jered Weaver (SP, Angels); James Loney (1B, Dodgers)
- Low A: Nick Adenhart (SP, Angels); Sergio Pedroza (DH, Dodgers)
- You Have To Be Kidding Me In The Anaheim Of Los Angeles Dep't: the Travs' official name starting with their 2007 season will be the "Arkansas Travelers of North Little Rock". For reals.
Scores
Kotchman: 0-2
McPherson: 1-4, 1 K
Eylward: 1-3, 1 BB
Mathis, J: 1-2, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 K
Bland: (L, 3-3), 5.0 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 7 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 4.80 ERA
Casey Kotchman was lifted in the bottom of the fourth for Corey Myers. Dallas McPherson is still finding his stroke but got his first hit in his rehab stint. Also nice to see Jeff Mathis walking. Nate Bland... well, not so good.
Wood: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Brown: 4-4, 3 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Evans: 0-4, 2 K
Porter: 2-4, 1 RBI
Wilson: 1-4
Rodland: 2-4, 1 2B
Green: 6.1 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 10 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2 HR, 4.70 ERA
Davidson: (W, 2-7) (in relief), 2.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 5.66 ERA
Ten total bases for Matt Brown, who doubled three times and homered, driving in three. The offense helped Nick Green overcome a shaky start in a game where the lead changed hands four times. Dan Davidson picked up the win in relief; though he has a 5.66 ERA on the season, he has a 2.08 ERA working from the bullpen, with nine strikeouts, four walks... and 15 hits. Yow. That's a 2.11 WHIP. Keep working on that, Dan.
Hooks starter Ronnie Martinez struck out seven batters in six innings in his first career AA start. He also gave up three earned runs and seven hits, walking only one: Brandon Wood. Wood has a six-game hitting streak, but he's been 1-fer in all six, and an eight-game on-base streak.
Rodriguez, S: 1-4, 2 K
Collins: 3-4, 1 RBI
Remole: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Johnson: 2-4
Leahy: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Fuller: 2-4, 1 RBI, 2 K
Gelinas: 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 5.55 ERA
Jepsen: (BS, 4)(W, 2-2) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 3.67 ERA
No game logs or even box scores available from MILB.com. Hopefully tomorrow, but it looks like the Quakes pulled it out in the ninth with a walkoff something-or-other.
Statia: 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Trumbo: 0-2, 2 BB, 2 K
Martinez: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Marek: (W, 10-2), 7.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 H, 9 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 1.96 ERA
While Lackey was wowing them at the big club, Stephen Marek was getting it done in Cedar Rapids, too. Here's another guy who's forcing his way into the Quakes' rotation pretty soon. With the promotion of ex-Kernel Nick Adenhart, Marek is the only 10-game winner in the Midwest League. The Lumber Kings' sole run came on an Ian Gac solo homer.
Bourjos: 2-4, 1 K
Rivera: 2-5, 1 K
Johnson: 3-5, 2 RBI, 1 K
Phillips: 1-5, 2 K
Brewer: 3-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
Haynes: 2.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 2 HR, 4.02 ERA
Browning: 3.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 3.38 ERA
Incinelli: 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 4.00 ERA
Cook: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2.79 ERA
Man, if Salt Lake hadn't screwed it up, every team in the Angels' system would have gotten a win today. Looking at those hit totals, you'd think there would be a ton of stranded runners, and sure enough, Orem left ten on the basepaths. Brewers starter Brock Kjeldgaard gave up ten hits but only three earned runs and four strikeouts. Ironically enough, it was 3B Tadd Brewer who drove in three runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th on a walkoff RBI single.
Aybar: 3-5, 1 2B
Young, D: 2-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB
LaRoche: 1-3, 1 BB
Robles: 1-3, 1 RBI
Stults: (L, 5-8), 5.0 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 7 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 5.03 ERA
Osoria: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.61 ERA
Hamulack: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 3 BB, 2.05 ERA
Loney made his first appearance in left field this week; he didn't start the game, though. Eric Stults adds another the the L column, pretty predictable when you give up six earned runs over five innings. Delwyn Young homered, and Willy Aybar went 3-5.
Hu, C: 4-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Ruggiano, J: 3-4, 2 RBI, 1 K
Raglani: 0-4, 1 BB
Garcia: 2-4, 1 2B
Elbert: 1-3
Elbert: (W, 2-0), 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 6 K, 5 BB, 0.82 ERA
A fine game for Scott Elbert, and a real monster of a game for both Chin-Lung Hu, Justin Ruggiano, and Tony Abreu. It was Elbert's second straight win since his promotion from Vero, one-hitting the Diamond Jaxx over six scoreless frames. Mark Alexander got his 22nd save on the season, striking out one, and has his ERA down to a get-me-a-microscope 0.66.
Bruce: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Locke: 2-4, 1 K
Dunlap: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 K
Paul, X: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Hoffmann: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Megrew: 3.2 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 4 BB, 1 HR, 2.75 ERA
Meloan: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 4.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
If the Dodgers couldn't beat the Cards, at least Vero could beat Palm Beach. The Dodgers — the Vero Beach variety, that is — won this one in the four-run seventh, with back-to-back jacks from Blake DeWitt (a three-run shot) and Cole Bruce. DeWitt's dinger was one of two home runs on the day, the other being a solo shot.
Mike Megrew struggled with his control and couldn't get out of the fourth in only his second start this year; prior to July 9, he was used exclusively in relief. He has yet to get into the fifth inning, but from the game recap above, it doesn't seem like they're purposing him as a tandem starter. Jonathan Meloan made his FSL debut and went 4.1 scoreless innings to get the win.
Pedroza: 1-2, 2 BB
Harper: 2-4, 1 2B
Denker, T: 0-4, 1 K
Horlacher: (L, 1-2), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 5.24 ERA
A quality start from David Horlacher, but Sand Gnat starter Craig Stammen held down the Catfish to only one run over seven innings.
Soto: 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Bell: 0-3
Perez: 0-1, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Brown: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB
Martin: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Dasni: (W, 2-2), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 2 HR, 6.00 ERA
Coleman: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 2.57 ERA
The Ospreys tied the game in the fourth on a solo homer from Andrew Fie off Chales Dasni, but Ogden came right back with consecutive doubles from Jeremy Brown and John Martin. Garrett White got his first save of the year by pitching a scoreless ninth.
Mattingly: 2-3, 1 BB
Ortiz: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Jansen: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Smit: (L, 0-2), 3.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 6.43 ERA
Paris: 3.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 3 BB, 1.89 ERA
Preziosi: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.25 ERA
I'd love to talk about the crimes of (Gary) Paris one of these days, but this isn't a good time, as he pitched three scoreless frames despite giving up three walks and three hits. The loser was Kyle Smit, replaced for the bottom of the fourth. Kenley Jansen got his first home run of the year, and professionally, too.
