Minor League Scorebook

News

The point has been made that with Dustin Moseley coming up to the big club, the Angels will have to move somebody off the 40-man roster. Allow me to suggest that that person is Chris Bootcheck, whose 7.16 ERA inflates to 8.37 if you only look at this year's relief appearances. He's had a string of three scoreless frames, and has allowed only four since June 18; on the other hand, he's cutting back on his hits allowed, and doesn't walk too many guys, generally fewer than he strikes out. If you needed a candidate to cut, though, he's tops on my list.

Scores

2006-07-15: Salt Lake 1, Sacramento 5 #
Willits, R: 2-4, 1 K
Kotchman: 0-4, 1 K
McPherson: 0-2, 1 BB
Eylward: 2-5, 1 2B
Mathis, J: 0-4
Rouwenhorst: (L, 4-5), 4.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 4.56 ERA
Hensley: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 2.57 ERA
Jonathan Rouwenhorst got yanked relatively early (only 68 pitches and after four innings) in an emergency start for the Bees. Dallas McPherson ran into an unusual double play in the fourth when he was picked off first by starter Benjamin Fritz; Casey Smith attempted to score on the steal attempt and was gunned down at the plate.

Casey Kotchman has yet to get a hit in seven AAA at bats thus far.

2006-07-15: Corpus Christi 4, Arkansas 6 #
Haynes: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Peel, A: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Wood: 0-3, 2 K
Brown: 2-3, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Evans: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Wilson: 1-3, 1 RBI
Arredondo: (W, 2-0), 5.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 8 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 3.32 ERA
An abbreviated seven-inning game, this was the first part of a doubleheader. Jose Arredondo notched his second AA win in this game in a not-particularly-inspiring performance. Aaron Peel and Terry Evans both homered in the fifth, and both were solo shots. Old nemesis Hunter Pence went 2-4 with a solo homer for the Hooks.
2006-07-15: Corpus Christi 4, Arkansas 3 #
Haynes: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Peel, A: 2-2, 1 2B, 2 BB
Wood: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Brown: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Evans: 0-3, 1 K
Wilson: 0-3, 1 K
Rodland: 2-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Edens: (L, 2-3), 2.1 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 5.19 ERA
Zimmermann: 1.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 6.26 ERA
Hunter Pence homered again, this time a two-run shot that gave the Hooks a three-run lead, a lead they would not relinquish. Eric Rodland homered in the loss.

With the split, the Travs are 12-12 in the second half, and incredibly, lead the Texas League North division.

2006-07-15: Lake Elsinore 8, Rancho Cucamonga 2 #
Rodriguez, S: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Collins: 1-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Remole: 2-4
Rodriguez: (L, 2-9), 5.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 4 BB, 5.67 ERA
Torres: 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 7.24 ERA
Francisco Rodriguez: not getting it done. The Quakes got three scoreless innings out of Brad Beck; Sean Rodriguez homered in the loss. Rafael Cruz Chavez came into the game with the score tied 2-2; he left after making two outs but giving up five runs, all earned.
2006-07-15: Southwest Michigan 9, Cedar Rapids 3 #
Statia: 1-2, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Trumbo: 0-2, 2 BB
Hill: (L, 3-5), 6.2 IP, 6 R, 4 ER, 7 H, 3 K, 3 BB, 3.81 ERA
Didjurgis: 1.2 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 4.26 ERA
If Tim Didjurgis keeps blowing up like this, I may have to take him off my watchlist. Cedar Rapids made four errors, one by Mark Trumbo, resulting in two unearned runs.
2006-07-15: Helena 3, Orem 7 #
Mount: 0-3
Johnson: 0-1, 3 BB
Phillips: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Reinhardt: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Herndon: (W, 1-2), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 3.66 ERA
Arredondo: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1.56 ERA
2006-07-15: AZL Angels 3, AZL Giants 4 #
Ortiz: 3-4, 1 2B
Colmenares: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Conger: 0-0, 1 BB
Castillo: 2-3, 1 BB
Schoeninger: (L, 2-1), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 2.13 ERA
Hank Conger started at DH but was lifted in the third for pinch hitter Seth Loman. The game was played in 105° F weather, and unsurprisingly, completed in 2:08. I wonder how many games in the complex leagues finish early.
2006-07-15: Tucson 8, Las Vegas 7 #
Valdez: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Aybar: 1-4, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Loney: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Guzman, J: 2-5, 1 RBI
Young, D: 2-4
Robles: 0-0, 1 BB
LaRoche: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Hanrahan: 0-1
Hanrahan: 5.0 IP, 6 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 K, 7 BB, 4.15 ERA
Osoria: (L, 2-2) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 4.76 ERA
Tucson scored five in the second, and Vegas eventually scored six in the seventh to tie the game. Joel Hanrahan's throwing error in the second generated four unearned runs. Once again, Alberto Callaspo bedeviled the 51's, going 3-6 with two RBIs; Matt Erickson drove in the game winning run off Franquelis Osoria.
2006-07-15: Jacksonville 7, Tennessee 3 #
Hu, C: 0-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Alvarez, N: 2-3, 1 K
Abreu: 0-1, 1 K
Gutierrez, G: 2-4, 3 RBI
Lundberg: (W, 8-1), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 2.33 ERA
Spike Lundberg... lather, rinse, repeat. He's a 2.5-A pitcher, I think. Lundberg even drove in a run by going 1-2.
2006-07-15: Brevard County 5, Vero Beach 8 #
Dewitt: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Locke: 0-3, 2 BB
Dunlap: 2-3, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Paul, X: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 K
Hoffmann: 3-4, 1 2B
Bastardo: (W, 3-5), 6.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 11 K, 1 BB, 3.91 ERA
Diaz: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 2.31 ERA
I guess somebody's been eating his Wheaties, or something, because 11 K's over six innings is pretty darned impressive. So, for that matter, were Cory Dunlap's two dingers. There were four hit batters in this game, including Dodgers Xavier Paul and Cole Bruce.
2006-07-15: Augusta 8, Columbus 5 #
De Jesus: 2-5, 1 2B, 3 RBI
Mooneyham: 0-3, 2 BB
Pedroza: 0-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Denker, T: 0-3, 1 BB
Sutherland: 2-3, 1 BB
May: 2-4, 1 RBI, 2 K
Godwin: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 K
Alvarez: 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 10 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 5.42 ERA
Castillo: (L, 6-2) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.78 ERA
A terrible game for Catfish pitching. Mario Alvarez gave up way too many hits, but Arismendy Castillo gave up the go-ahead run. Kale Garrison plunked consecutive batters and gave up another run on a bases-loaded walk in the eighth — and he walked in another run the same way in the top of the ninth.
2006-07-15: Missoula 3, Ogden 1 #
Rivera, J: 0-4, 1 K
Soto: 2-4
Bell: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Perez: 2-3, 1 BB
Giles: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Morris: (L, 0-1), 5.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 3.18 ERA
Brooks: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 2.08 ERA
White: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 4.05 ERA
2006-07-15: GCL Dodgers 4, GCL Nationals 8 #
Mattingly: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Mathews: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 K
Mora: 2-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Guerra: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Haldis: (L, 2-2) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 6 R, 4 ER, 8 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 3.24 ERA

Comments:
Sure, Boot has struggled since his stellar spring training, but I bet they just move Erstad to the 60 day list. - But is any of this speculation necessary? According to the Angels website, they only have 38 folks on their 40 man roster.

I think the Angels had been going with only 39 on the 40-man, and that went down to 38 when WTE was DFA. Evans (the player acquired from StL.) is not on the 40-man yet.
