- Bryan Smith has a few words to say about short-season prospects:
Clayton Kershaw ... the first high school pitcher [taken in the 2006 draft] should dominate the Gulf Coast League. ... Sean O'Sullivan ... the year's top draft-and-follow is making another Angels investment look good.

Ryan Mount has been fantastic in ... the Pioneer League, and his presence up the middle makes him a better prospect. And the Angels drafted Trevor Bell before Mount, and Bell is near the league's top ERA mark.

Comments:
Cannot comment on Kendry but could it be that Murphy and Mathis hit at this level because they are playing regularly? Both look at ease at the plate and ready to go. Not only do they hit well but both made some great defensive plays as well.
