Sele, A Real Pitcher? Dodgers 3, Giants 1
Two games back. It seems meet to end the first half this way, with both the Angels and Dodgers two games back in their respective divisions, both with glaring problems (the Dodgers in their rotation and most of their bullpen, the Angels with their fluky offense and error-prone fielding). And the one guy who I've waiting to fail, all year long, has been unexpected starter Aaron Sele. Sele's been 5-17 with a 6.67 ERA after the All-Star break over the previous three seasons.
Postscriptum: I'm watching the Cards/Astros game, and the audio feed for Jon Miller and Joe Morgan got lost, so we're listening to ESPN Deportes as Candy Maldonado, Carlos Baerga and Ernesto Jeres call the game just before Albert Pujols tied the game with an infield single. Then, Scott Rolen came up and hit a three run blast:
It wasn't before the break yet, and Sele pitched like it. Will he be here after the break? Who knows.
Juan Cruz, Jr., this year's Hee Seop Choi, in someone else's words, provided almost all all the offense. I'm not crying too much about his lack of playing time, not when Ethier's getting shortchanged ahead of him.

Maldonado: Deep to left field! You don't need to translate that. You just don't.
Baerga: ¡A la profundooooo.... no no no no no! <I don't speak Spanish that well, words go here> ¡...pelota!
