2006-08-11: Salt Lake 5, Colorado Springs 6 #
Willits: 1-4, 1 BB
Aybar: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Eylward: 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
McPherson: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K

Greg Jones surrendered a solo homer to Colorado Springs left fielder Sean Barker in the eighth to give the Sky Sox the lead and ultimately the win. Dallas McPherson hit a two-run blast in the third; former Met Kaz Matsui and J.D. Closser homered for the Sky Sox. The victory was Sox manager Tom Runnels' 700th career minor league victory. Runnels had previously managed the Montreal Expos from 1991-92.

Brown: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Wilson: 1-2, 2 BB
Rodriguez, R: (L, 5-8), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 4 BB, 1 HR, 6.71 ERA
Rafael Rodriguez took the loss as the Travs' offense couldn't support his quality start. Matt Brown's 3-4 night highlights a guy who's having an under-the-radar good season that might just land him as a ranked prospect next year; he's got a very solid .309/.381/.509 line this year, and is striking out about twice as often as he's walking, a little less than a quarter of his at bats (92/43 K/BB in 446 AB).

Jepsen: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.27 ERA
A five-run third highlighted Rancho's rout of High Desert. The start was Mavericks starter John Gragg III's worst in some time, as he had not allowed more than three earned runs since May 27. Francisco Rodriguez got his second quality start on the month with the win. Drew Toussaint and Ben Johnson both homered, Johnson twice; one of Johnson's jacks was a three-run blast. Catcher Johnson has twice as many homers as Michael Collins (14 vs 7), and is outslugging him (.458 vs .400). I wonder which one will be on Baseball America's prospect list in 2007.
