Re: Ebel

actually i'm much more interested in what happened with Ebel and OC the night before, with him not scoring the tying run from 2B on a gapper single. tough read admittedly but .....

a. what was Ebel signaling OC to do as he headed into 3B from 2b with the tying run?
hold it up?
windmill him home?
or, worst of all, nothing?

b. and more importantly, why was OC turning around to look what was occuring in RF while heading into 3B? shouldn't he have just been looking at his coach?

does any one know? - i didn't see Ebel's actions on MLB TV, but i sure saw OC turn around a look into RF before he even got to 3b.
and was thinking "What the ....?"

if Ebel was saying stop and OC was obeying, just turning around to see why - all is forgiven.

otherwise, OC blundered - look at your 3B Coach - that's his job to at RF and the ball.

(and OC, your other job is to make double plays with the help of your 2B, but i digress....)

I was at the game, on that "gapper" (which was actually a popup to short right center) from OC's point of view it would have been very tough for him to see if the ball had been caught by one of the three converging fielders, which forced him to hold up at second until he could see the ball (all three fielders were on the ground, as with the ball) and Ebel correctly held him up.

I'm still waiting for the statistical proof that this "aggressive" baserunning is really netting us runs. I'm also tired of the "we're forcing them to make the throw" argument -- we're dealing with Major League baseball players -- not little leaguers where that strategy makes sense.

thanks - i saw the hit, and it was a tough read.

but what pissed me off was OC turning around to look BEFORE he got to 3rd base. - that's what i saw.

props to Ebel for holding him - that's the part id din't see, and now can understand why oc LOOKED.

ALL IS FORGIVEN OC, AND THANKS A MILION FOR YOUR OBSREVATION ABOUT EBEL!

In Strat terms, that looked like about 1-14 chance to score on Pena. Rivera rolled a 15.
