That Other Rookie Pitcher: Angels 9, Rangers 1

Jeff Weaver fails to earn his $8M? DFA him and call up little brother.

Your Cy Young winning staff ace goes down with season-ending shoulder trouble? No worries. Reach down to Salt Lake for Joe Saunders.

It hasn't been all that easy for the Angels this year, but the fact remains that Angels kids are 11-0 on the season, and with today's win, Joe goes 3-0. In the middle of a remarkably fluid season that's seen the division lead change every other week (and even more often at times), the Angels' pitching depth is nothing short of incredible.

The Angels' offense, moribund in the first two games of the series, pounded out eight runs in the first two innings, giving Saunders an instant boost. He's not taking anything for granted:

"All my starts are going to be statement starts to prove that day in and day out I can pitch at this level," he said.
Let's hope it stays that way. His next test will be at Yankee Stadium.
