Annihilation: Dodgers 14, Rockies 5
By the time Grady Little pulled Brad Penny from the mound in the sixth, I was rolling my eyes pretty hard; Penny's recent starts haven't been anything you wanted to watch without your fingers in front of your eyes, yet for five he more or less put up a credible imitation of a pitcher throwing a good game. Fortunately for him, the Dodgers had already posted seven runs against the hapless Rockies, who compounded the crimes of Aaron Cook with a helping of former Royal Jeremy Affeldt.
J.D. Drew and Nomar both homered, as did James Loney, getting his first career dinger. It was the kind of crazy game in which Jeff Kent got an RBI walk, and by the end of the sixth, both sides had put up eleven runs. Ker-splat.
The Dodgers' magic number is 24.
