Catchers Who Have Caught Three No-Hitters
In light of the earlier note today that Val Picinich caught three no-hitters, and perhaps of interest lately thanks to Anibal Sanchez's no-hitter for the Marlins, here's a list of ex-Dodgers and Angels who have caught three no-hitters in their careers:
* Koufax's perfect game
Date Catcher Pitcher Team Opponent Score 8/26/1916 Val Picinich Joe Bush Philadelphia A's vs. Cleveland Indians 5-0 7/1/1920 Val Picinich Walter Johnson Washington Senators @ Boston Red Sox 1-0 9/7/1923 Val Picinich Howard Ehmke Boston Red Sox @ Philadelphia A's 4-0 6/19/1952 Roy Campanella Carl Erskine Brooklyn Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs 5-0 5/12/1956 Roy Campanella Carl Erskine Brooklyn Dodgers vs. New York Giants 3-0 9/25/1956 Roy Campanella Sal Maglie Brooklyn Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 9/9/1965 Jeff Torborg Sandy Koufax Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs 1-0* 7/20/1970 Jeff Torborg Bill Singer Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 5/15/1973 Jeff Torborg Nolan Ryan California Angels @ Kansas City Royals 3-0 5/11/1996 Charles Johnson Al Leiter Florida Marlins vs. Colorado Rockies 11-0 6/10/1997 Charles Johnson Kevin Brown Florida Marlins @ San Francisco Giants 9-0 5/12/2001 Charles Johnson A.J. Johnny Roseboro caught two no-hitters, both with Sandy Koufax on the mound: a 5-0 game against the Mets on June 30, 1962, and an 8-0 shellacking of the Giants on May 11, 1963. Much thanks to the Encyclopedia of Baseball Catchers for this interesting info.
