Pickoff Moves

Today's Birthdays

Tom Burgess LAA b. 1927, played 1962

Dick Lange CAL b. 1948, played 1972-1975. Like Roger Repoz, a player who never was able to reproduce his minor league success; he was 13-0 with Idaho Falls in Rookie-A ball, but his strikeout rates plummeted as he advanced. Something to remember when getting excited about players like Gustavo Espinoza and Vladimir Veras.

Luis Lopez LAN b. 1964, played 1990. 1987 MVP with the Cal League Bakersfield Dodgers.

Darby O'Brien BRO b. 1863, played 1890-1892, d. 1893-06-15

Rob Wilfong CAL b. 1953, played 1982-1986. Led the league in sac hits in 1979, with 25, in a career year with the Twins. He drove in the first run of the seventh inning and the tying run in the bottom of the ninth in the 1986 ALCS Game 5, infamously squandered by Donnie Moore; in fact, he was one of the undersung heroes of that series, hitting .308 and driving in two runs in 14 at bats. Signed with the Giants for 1987, and was out of baseball thereafter.

Dodgers Add Marlon Anderson

The Dodgers added Marlon Anderson to their roster yesterday before the expansion deadline, picking him up from the Nationals for pitching prospect Jhonny Nunez and cash. Update: Some Weis guy comments.

Truce

I'll take that as a sign of contrition, or something. But if it's all the same to you, I'll stay away from Angels Anonymous, or Halos Heaven, or whatever, for the duration. I mean, staring into the abyss can make you delusional, and I'm having a hard enough time tying my shoes.
