Roster Notes
- The Padres declined to exercise their options on Mike Piazza and Ryan Klesko; Piazza's option was worth $8M. Piazza and Klesko will receive buyouts worth $750,000 and $500,000 instead. The Padres continue to weigh the fate of centerfielder Mike Cameron and third baseman Russell Branyan.
- The Red Sox have extended knuckleballer Tim Wakefield by exercising a $4M option on the aging pitcher, though batterymate and catcher Doug Mirabelli has filed for free agency. Good luck with that, Jason Veritek...
- Carlos Lee has filed for free agency, along with Gary Matthews, Jr., Mark DeRosa, Adam Eaton, Rod Barajas, and Eric Young.
