Today's Birthdays
Troy Brohawn LAN b. 1973, played 2003
Art Decatur BRO b. 1894, played 1922-1925, d. 1966-04-25
Terry Forster LAN,CAL b. 1952, played 1978-1982, 1986. One of those names always in the back of my head from the late-70's Dodgers, he was a high school phenom whose physique eventually turned into what David Letterman aptly described as "a tub of goo". The first free agent ever signed by the Dodgers, bone chips and severe weight problems hindered his performance. After a three-year stint with the Braves, who released him following spring training in 1986, he signed with the Angels, where he had a surprisingly good final season with the division winning Halos.
Billy Parker CAL b. 1947, played 1971-1973, d. 2003-02-09
Joe Redfield CAL b. 1961, played 1988
Derrel Thomas CAL,LAN b. 1951, played 1979-1984. A first overall draft pick in the 1969 draft by the Astros, he showed amazing versatility, playing every position except pitcher; he was the starting centerfielder on the disappointing 1979 squad that finished third, but also helped Tommy Lasorda's flexibility fetish at third, along with the criminal misuse of Pedro Guerrero. Arrested on drug charges in 1992, he's now involved in anti-drug efforts.
