Pickoff Moves
Today's Birthdays
And what a short list!Elmer Dessens LAN b. 1971, played 2004-2006. Signed as an amateur out of Mexico by the Pirates, who released him after three unsuccessful years as a swingman in the Show; the Reds picked him up after he spent a year playing for Yomiuri in the Japanese Leagues. Traded to Arizona in 2002 as part of an unusual four-team, four-player trade that netted Oakland perma-DH Erubiel Durazo, the Snakes sent him to the Dodgers two years later as a salary dump. Ineffective as a starter, he pitched very well out of the bullpen for the Dodgers; after a brief sojourn with the Royals in 2006, the Dodgers traded whiny, bad Odalis Perez (and a couple of minor league pitchers) to get him back, thus concluding the Gary Sheffield era in Los Angeles, as Perez was one of the returns on the trade of that player to Atlanta.
Jimmy Jordan BRO b. 1908, played 1933-1936, d. 1957-12-04
Morales Day-To-Day
According to the Register, Kendry Morales' injury is a day-to-day concern and not a larger problem, thus relieving many minds in the Angels' brain trust:"I talked to Arturo (deFreitas, the Cibao manager) this morning, and he said the information he got from his medical people was that it was a day-to-day thing," Stoneman said. "He said Kendry had the knee scanned - now, I'm not sure if that means an MRI or what - and the medical people told him nothing abnormal showed up.Morales will continue playing for the Gigantes de Ciboa, who are in the DWL playoffs."I talked to the owner of the team, too, and he said the same things. He referred Kendry to an orthopedic specialist who told them the same thing, that it's a day-to-day thing."
Ichiro Rumorsville
Either Ichiro wants off the Mariners to play for a contender, or else he doesn't. Hmm.Newer› ‹Older
