Mark "Too Many Consonants" Gubicza To Join Angels Broadcast Team, Angels Sign Six

Mark Gubicza will join the Angels broadcast team this year, doing 50 telecasts with Jose Mota; the remaining 100 will feature the old duo of Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler. Presumably, the Gubicza/Mota pair will work on the 50 games aired on KCOP. I'm sort of surprised, in a way, that he's coming back; his introduction to the Angels came as the bad end of the trade that sent Chili Davis to the Royals. A related story in the Times quotes Angels VP of Communications Tim Mead as saying "This keeps everyone fresh." Heh.

Also, the Halos inked six players prior to spring training: RHPs Jose Arredondo and Steven Shell, INF Matt Brown, OFs Terry Evans and Nick Gorneault, and C Bobby Wilson.

Is there any possibility that Angels' personnell have read the halosphere complaints about Angel telecasts?

It's possible. On the other hand, the problems so obvious to us can't be invisible to Arte, either.

I don't outright hate Physioc and Hudler; they have their uses, and I've heard far worse. But that said, they both come up mighty short compared to Vin Scully.

While I'd still prefer Ross Porter with Mota (heck, I'd be perfectly fine with Porter & Hudler), at the very least this is a step in the right direction.

Not that I think they'll do it, but I'm hoping they give Gorneault a chance to make the team this year. Seems like they keep looking for ways to block him from getting a shot and he keeps on putting up good numbers...With GA moving inexorably toward oblivion and Vlad's knees aging exponentially, Gorneault at least has some pop and youth.

I can hardly disagree, Anon.

Maybe someone can go on Wheel of Fortune and buy a vowel.

can't believe you don't like the Rex "wonder dog". He bleeds Angel red.

Oh, I don't hate Rex like some guys do, but he often as not spouts pure nonsense up there. There are times and uses for a homer, but just being a cheerleader shouldn't be enough to get you a sinecure, unless your job is actually to lead cheers. In which case, Rex really needs to try out in a cute little skirt.
