Roster Notes
- David Wells likes his sarcasm dry:
"We've got some good pitching here, providing everybody stays healthy and does their job. I think we can win those 2-1, 1-0 ballgames, with our powerful, explosive offensive we have from time to time," the big left-hander said, just a bit sarcastically.
- The players' union will file a grievance over Todd Walker's release by the Padres.
- Dan Johnson will start the season on the A's DL with torn hip cartilage. He could miss as much as three months.
- Randy Johnson will start the season on the DL, but the Diamondbacks are expected to reactivate him shortly after the season starts. He's having back problems.
- Former Angel and Dodger Aaron Sele has made the Mets' roster; ex-Dodger Chan Ho Park is also on New York's short list.
- Only 8.4% of major leaguers were black last season; apparently Darin Erstad forgot that it was his turn.
