Minor League Scorebook

Update: Now with comments!

2007-04-10: Tucson 2, Salt Lake 7 #
Haynes: 1-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Mathis: 1-3, 1 BB
Wood: 1-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Morales: 2-3, 1 BB
Evans: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Olenberger: (W, 1-0), 7.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 9 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 2.08 ERA
Brandon Wood homered but is otherwise off to a slow start, striking out 11 times versus two walks in 28 AB, for a .179/.233/.393 line. Terry Evans homered also, and is hitting well on the young season (.368/.455/.737, 3 BB, 9 K, 19 AB). Nathan Haynes hit a three-run inside-the-park homer in the second, the third home run of the game. Kasey Olenberger held Tucson to two runs over seven.
2007-04-10: Arkansas 9, Midland 1 #
Morrissey: 2-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Leahy: 2-4, 1 2B
Pride: 3-4, 2 RBI
Rodriguez, S: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Sandoval, F: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Collins: 1-4, 1 K
Smith, J: (W, 1-0), 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Organizational soldier Jesse Smith reeled off six scoreless innings with four strikeouts in a seven-inning doubleheader, while Sean Rodriguez homered and drove in three. Adam Morrissey also contributed a solo homer; Curtis Pride drove in a pair. Man, he must love the game. What do they get paid down there, $18,000?

Kazuhito Tadano, whom I have written about previously, got knocked around for three runs over five innings in the loss.

2007-04-10: Arkansas 3, Midland 4 #
Rodriguez, S: 1-2, 1 2B, 1 BB
Wilson: 1-3, 1 K
Pali: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Green: 4.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 3.38 ERA
Rodriguez, R: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.70 ERA
The usual result in a doubleheader: a split. Nick Green couldn't get out of the fifth, his evening ending following a single to the box. One thing I'm kind of surprised by is that AA and below still don't have pitch counts for pitchers. Why is that, when they carry that statistic for college games?

Matt Pali homered in the loss.

2007-04-10: Inland Empire 2, Rancho Cucamonga 4 #
Statia: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 RBI
Nieves: 1-2, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Renz: 2-4, 2 RBI, 2 K
Morris: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Rosario: 0-4, 4 K
Colon: (W, 1-0), 5.2 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 1.86 ERA
Ah, more opportunities for Dodgers/Angels cross-pollination, and in this case, Bartolo Colon got another tuneup start with Rancho against the Dodgers' Inland Empire minor league affiliate. Colon, on a strict 75 pitch count, struck out five allowing two runs on five hits. He had trouble elevating the ball at times. Brok Butcher finished the game.

Dallas Morris, Jordan Renz, and Hainley Statia all drove in at least one run. Statia in particular made a solid play for the final out of the game, robbing Rafael Furcal.

Jered Weaver will make his last rehab start today.

2007-04-10: Cedar Rapids 0, Quad Cities 6 #
Mount: 0-4

Phillips: 1-3, 1 K
O'Sullivan: (L, 0-1), 6.0 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 2 HR, 3.00 ERA
Four Cedar Rapids errors contributed to a 6-0 loss; Sean O'Sullivan pitched better than his line indicated thanks to two unearned runs.

Alexander: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 10.80 ERA
Las Vegas pounded host Colorado Springs, getting homers off the bats of Tony Abreu, Delwyn Young, and Mitch Jones.
"Every year, I struggle at the beginning of the season. It seems like this is a good year and I'm going to continue to work hard," Abreu said through teammate and translator Luis Gonzalez. "Today was a good day. I'm going to keep trying with two singles and three singles a day. I'm seeing the ball pretty good."

...

"We were very prepared. This wasn't the (last) time it's going to happen," Abreu said. "It could happen in every game. I just feel ready right now, I feel confident. I want to help the team."

In fact, Abreu had a perfect day at the plate, going 5-5, while Young drove in three. Eric Stults pitched five scoreless frames, striking out three, and Mark Alexander pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Larry Bigbie is batting .600 (9-15) on the young season.

Leach: 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Rafael Furcal's first night back in professional ball, though he did get at least one scorcher that could have been a hit. Alberto Bastardo took the loss.

Great performances for Abreu at Vegas and Elbert at Jacksonville.

The Minor League Scorebook continues to be an asset for Angel and Dodger fans. Thank you for doing it.
