A Beer And A BK: Dodgers 2, Rockies 1

The Dodgers made Nomar's RBI single hold up through seven, but the Rockies came back on reserve catcher Yorvit Torrealba's single in the seventh against Chad Billingsley. Billingsly rocked and rolled through five batters, and after giving up a double and a walk in the top of the eighth, Joe Beimel coaxed a double play to end the inning.

Byun-Hyung Kim, whom the Rockies are currently shopping, didn't do himself any favors by giving up the go-ahead run on Russell Martin's sac fly in the bottom of the eighth. He looked generally sloppy, missing the plate with plenty of balls. At $2.5M, he's probably overpaid, but regardless of that, the amazing thing was that the Rockies were able to hold their own in a tight game most of the time.

Finally, I should mention Brett Tomko's unusually strong outing; he won't likely do it again. As someone in the DT comments said last night, he should always pitch with five months rest between starts.

Kelvim Escobar "played 2004-2005"? What happened to 2006 and 2007?

Good question. I'm using the Lahman database to generate the daily list, and it looks like it's slightly broken in places. It also missed Andre Ethier's birthday yesterday. I'll take a look at it today. Thanks for catching that.

Oh, and as for 2007, he doesn't publish in-season.

No mention of the ex-Angel, Donnelly-Guillen confrontation? Highly entertaining!

Oh, fooey. Forgot to throw that in there.
