Brandon Wood went 3-5 and drove in three to help beat the Sidewinders in Tucson Wednesday. Kendry Morales chipped in with a 2-5 night and an RBI; he's 5-10 with six RBIs in the last two games, ending a 1-for-11 slump. Terry Evans went 1-1 with a double as a late-inning replacement for slumping Nick Gorneault. At the other end of the spectrum, Brent Del Chiaro went 0-5 with a golden sombrero.

Chris Resop finally had a decent game, pitching a scoreless eighth; Marcus Gwyn finished the game, posting a zero frame.

Statia: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Morris: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 K
Renz: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Wipke: 2-4, 1 RBI

Lynch: (W, 2-0) (in relief), 2.2 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2.79 ERA
U. Florida product Kevin Lynch vultured this win in relief because Amalio Diaz couldn't survive the fifth. Left fielder Drew Toussaint made an excellent throw home, apparently not in time to prevent Yordany Ramirez from scoring but in time to catch David Freese trying to reach second with two out. The Quakes scored the winning run in the top of the eighth, when Brad Coon reached on an error by second baseman Matt Antonelli; with Hainley Statia batting, he stole second and third, and Statia plated him with an RBI groundout to the pitcher. Darren O'Day got the save by pitching an inning and two-thirds scoreless frames in relief.
2007-04-18: Cedar Rapids 12, South Bend 6 #
Bourjos: 1-4, 2 BB
Phillips: 1-5, 2 K
Sweeney: 2-5
Conger: 1-4, 1 BB
Mount: 0-2, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Albano: 2-5, 1 RBI

Schoeninger: (W, 2-0), 6.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 12 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 3.75 ERA
South Bend got four in the first and two in the ninth, but a bunch of zeros inbetween when the Kernels were busy putting crooked numbers up. Catcher Brett Martinez plated five, three on a bases-loaded triple in the second, and two more on an RBI single in the fourth. Hank Conger walked and got a hit, scoring two runs. Conger's hitting .242 right now, and DH'd in this game. Ryan Mount also scored a pair.

Tim Schoeninger wobbled through six innings; Anthony Sullivan put up two zero frames in the seventh and eighth, and Pedro Herrera finished the game, giving up two runs in the ninth.

2007-04-18: Colorado Springs 10, Las Vegas 6 #
Abreu: 1-2, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Kemp: 0-3
Jones, M: 2-2, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Loney: 1-4, 1 BB, 2 K

Young: 0-5, 2 K
Freeman: 3-5

Hoorelbeke: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 3.86 ERA
Alexander: 1.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 12.71 ERA
Room 2|2|2: Joe Mays wasn't horrible through six; the offense gave the team something to work with, with a 6-4 lead going into the top of the seventh, but Luis Gonzalez surrendered the lead in the seventh, getting a blown save (one of baseball's stranger rules) when centerfielder Choo Freeman misplayed a ball with two outs, allowing Frank Menechino to score from second base. Casey Hoorelbeke allowed two more in the top of the eighth, despite nearly getting out of a jam with a double play, leaving a man on third. Mark Alexander compounded the 51's woes by allowing another two runs in the top of the ninth.
2007-04-18: Jacksonville 4, Huntsville 5 #
Hu, C: 4-5, 1 3B, 1 RBI
Paul: 0-4, 1 BB, 2 K
Dunlap: 0-5, 1 RBI
McDougall: 3-5, 2 RBI, 1 K
Allen: 2-5
Maza: 2-2
Cyr: 5.0 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 8 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 3.68 ERA
Wright: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Meloan: (L, 2-1) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 1.17 ERA
A sloppy game with five errors between the two teams, one of which was made by Chin-Lung Hu — who also had a fine offensive night, goint 4-5 with a triple and an RBI. Former Angel organizational player Eric Cyr got the start; Cyr is also a countryman of Eric Gagne's, and in fact both hail from Montreal and attended Seminole JC in Oklahoma. Cyr allowed four runs but did not take the loss; Wesley Wright pitched a scoreless eighth. Jacksonville offense got Cyr off the hook in the top of the ninth by tying the game 4-4, but Jonathan Meloan took the loss in the bottom of the frame, when he wild-pitched in the losing run. (What is that, a run-off instead of a walk-off?)
