Scores

2007-04-22: Tacoma 1, Salt Lake 6 #
Haynes: 1-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Brown: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Wood: 0-4, 3 K
Gorneault: 1-4
Evans: 0-3, 1 BB
Pavkovich: 2-4, 2 RBI
Del Chiaro: 3-4, 1 K
Bonilla: (W, 3-0), 6.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 3.74 ERA
Henry Bonilla has hitherto escaped notice, but he's now 3-0 with a 3.74 ERA in the thin-air parks of the PCL. Adam Pavkovich and Matt Brown provided three of the team's RBIs, and Nathan Haynes hit a two-run shot off Jorge Campillo. Catcher Brent Del Chiaro was 3-4 and scored a pair of runs.

Brandon Wood was one strikeout away from a golden sombrero; call it a silver sombrero. Wood is now hitless in his last three games and walkless in this one, putting an end to a seven-game on-base streak.

2007-04-22: Arkansas 3, Wichita 7 #
Rodriguez, S: 2-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Wilson: 1-4, 1 K
Davidson: (L, 0-3), 5.2 IP, 4 R, 1 ER, 8 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 2.49 ERA
Thompson: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 4.50 ERA
Dan Davidson's outing wasn't quite as bad as it seemed, though you might argue with the scoring rules that allowed a one-out error to evaporate three of his runs, at least two of which ought to be earned (in my conception of the rules, anyway). In the bottom of the sixth with one out and Jorge Padilla on at first, Chris Lubanski reached on a throwing error by Matt Pali. This set up a double by Richard Lewis, who drove in Padilla, but Lubanski was tagged out at the plate, leaving Lewis at third on the throw. (Incidentally, that play went 9-4-2-1, and it's not often you see that sort of an out.)

Davidson then intentionally walked Mike Stodolka, and Bill Edwards came into the game and gave up a three-run jack, cashing in both of Davidson's baserunners. Blecch.

Anyway, Sean Rodriguez drove in three on two hits, both homers. Kid seems to know what he's doing.

2007-04-22: San Jose 4, Rancho Cucamonga 1 #
Coon: 3-3, 1 BB
Statia: 1-4, 1 RBI
Ortega: (L, 1-2), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 8 H, 0 K, 3 BB, 3.60 ERA
San Jose jumped ahead in the two-run second and that was that. Hainley Statia drove in the only run for the Quakes, as opposition starter Dave McKae struck out five in six innings.
2007-04-22: Cedar Rapids 1, Great Lakes 10 #
Bourjos: 0-4, 2 K
Phillips: 1-4, 1 K
Conger: 1-4
Mount: 2-4
O'Sullivan: (L, 0-2), 4.0 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 8 H, 7 K, 2 BB, 4.50 ERA
Browning: 2.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 8.31 ERA
The Loons popped the Kernels in this one; Sean O'Sullivan gave up five runs, all earned, despite striking out seven over four innings. Christopher Pettit drove in the only run for the Kernels. Both Felipe Arredondo and Barret Browning had similarly bad outings, though between the two, they struck out only one batter. Only Aaron Cook was able to pitch a scoreless frame.
2007-04-22: Orem did not play
2007-04-22: AZL Angels did not play
2007-04-22: Las Vegas 4, Sacramento 6 #
Abreu: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Loney: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K
LaRoche: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Young: 0-4
Jones, M: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Huckaby: 2-4, 1 RBI
Stults: 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 8 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 2.91 ERA
Hoorelbeke: (H, 1), 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 6.10 ERA
Lundberg: (L, 1-1) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 11.81 ERA
Journeyman Spike Lundberg lost this one in relief, though the 51's made a brave comeback attempt in the top of the ninth. Mitch Jones homered, and James Loney doubled, driving in Tony Abreu in the third, the latter also doubling to lead off that frame. Andy LaRoche had a pair of hits, and drove in one.
2007-04-22: Jacksonville 6, West Tenn 8 #
Hu, C: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Paul: 3-5, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Lindsey: 1-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Dunlap: 2-3, 1 BB
Juarez: 6.0 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 4 BB, 4.50 ERA
Riley: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 4 BB, 1.64 ERA
Good offensive performances from Chin-Lung Hu and Xavier Paul weren't enough to carry the Suns past the Diamond Jaxx, as the pitching faltered. Thanks to two errors, five of West Tenn's runs were unearned; West Tenn was even sloppier, committing three errors but getting the win anyway.
2007-04-22: Inland Empire 11, Lancaster 6 #
Dewitt: 3-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB
De Jesus: 1-6
Denker, T: 1-6, 1 HR, 1 RBI
May: 2-4, 2 RBI
Gutierrez, G: 1-1, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Mitchell: 2-3, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Justis: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Locke: 1-3, 2 BB
Castillo, J: (W, 1-3), 5.0 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 5.50 ERA
Wade: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 0.61 ERA
Leach: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 0.68 ERA
The 66ers never trailed in this one; Blake Dewitt's RBI single plated two in the four-run fourth, but the real fireworks occurred in the top of eighth, when three Inland Empire batters homered: Travis Denker to lead off, Gabriel Gutierrez immediately after him, and Shane Justis with two outs. Amazingly, the same pitcher gave up all three, Lancaster reliever Ismael Casillas. Inland Empire relievers David Pfeiffer and Brent Leach gave up two homers, a double, a single, and a walk to allow a five-run comeback in the bottom of the eighth, but Lancaster wasn't able to do any more.
2007-04-22: Cedar Rapids 1, Great Lakes 10 #
Robinson: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Bell: 1-5, 2 RBI
Perez: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Sutherland: 3-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Jansen: 2-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
Hunt: 2-3, 1 BB
Lizarraga: 2-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
Wall: (W, 1-2), 7.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 6 K, 0 BB, 3.68 ERA
A great pitching performance by Josh Wall accompanied by a thumping offense equaled a laugher for the Loons. Amazingly, no homeres in this one for Great Lakes; Joshua Bell drove in a pair, as did Trayvon Robinson. Only white-hot (.342 average) Bridger Hunt failed to post an RBI, and even he went 2-3 with a walk.
