Suddenly, September 18, 2006 Seems Less Special

Remember this? Somehow the Red Sox ripped four consecutive home runs off Yankees starter Chase Wright, now only the fifth time in major league history this feat has been accomplished. There were some interesting connections in this spree to both the Angels and Dodgers: We're probably going to be hearing about how great this was for months now, even though it's early in the season; this is, after all, the Yankees and Red Sox.

Update: You all can stop writing in now. I know it was Chase Wright, not injury-plagued Jaret, whom I incorrectly believed was still with the Yanks. Poor kid was making his second major league start, and previous to his April 17 victory over Cleveland, he hadn't played at any level past single-A ball.

Wrong Wright. That's Chase, not Jarret.

Frack. Corrected.

I hate that ESPN feels there are two teams in baseball--the Yankees and the not-Yankees also known as the Red Sox.

That said, that was one incredible game tonight.

Was going to correct you on Chase Wright. At least you had spelled it "Jaret" (correctly), though.

Interesting that people wrote in to correct you on which Wright gave up the homers, but no one has mentioned that it's September 18, 2006 that suddenly seems less special.

Goddammit, can I not make one post without any major mistakes?

As you point out, though, our four consecutive HRs were in a pennant race. The Red Sox home runs are in a meaningless April...

...I still give ours the nod. Screw ESPN's east coast bias.

Not only was it late in the season, but late in the game. You want drama? You want tension? I mean, I understand about Boston and New York being bitter, ancient rivals and all that, but criminey, can we get at least a little love out west here?

I agree. ESPN does not have any love for the west. The announcers seemed as though the did not even know that the Dodgers hit four in a row last year.
