Minor League Scorebook
News
I have brought the watchlist up to date with the Baseball America Prospect Handbook 2007. Notable deletions follow in strict alpha order, mixed together regardless of parent ownership; players were delisted unless otherwise indicated.

- Bartolo Colon and Jered Weaver stay on the list until they return from the DL.
- Joe Saunders stays on the list because he's likely to be sent back down by the end of May.
- Reggie Willits and Tommy Murphy will stay on the list even though they're currently on the MLB roster because I'm not sanguine about their prospects of staying up there,
- Warner Madrigal and Gustavo Espinoza stay on because, well, I just like 'em.
- I will add Rafael Furcal to the list once he's cleared to play minor league games.
Scores
A truncated schedule partly due to cold, and partly due to Easter.
Mathis: 2-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Wood: 0-5, 2 K
Morales: 1-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Gorneault: 0-3, 2 BB
Brown: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K
Pavkovich: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Liriano: (L, 0-1), 4.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 4.50 ERA
The 51's got some measure of revenge for the earlier blowouts, partly against organizational soldier Pedro Liriano, though he didn't take the worst of the damage despite taking the loss; that was reserved for Jonathan Rouwenhorst, who surrendered five runs, four earned, and now sports a 23.14 ERA on the young season.
Jeff Mathis homered and walked twice, but Brandon Wood went hitless with a pair of strikeouts. Matt Brown and Kendry Morales each drove in a run.
Liriano was originally an Angels' free agent signing from the Dominican in 1998, and in 2001 was the Arizona League Most Outstanding Pitcher, earning honors twice in the Pioneer League and in in the Rookie League as well. The Angels sent him to the Phillies as a player to be named later in exchange for reserve outfielder Alex Ochoa and catcher Jorge Fabregas in 2002. He was released three years later, signed with the Giants in 2006, and is presently again with the Angels.

Tsao: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 4.50 ERA
The 51's feasted on Jonathan Rouwenhorst, with Larry Bigbie going 4-5 and Tony Abreu driving in three at the top of the lineup on a bases-loaded triple. Sergio Garcia and Choo Freeman also got three hits each in the slugfest. Greg Miller started the game, walking five and striking out three, but only pitched three innings; Eric Hull got the win in relief. Mark Alexander continued his recent woes on the mound, giving up two runs, both earned, walking three and giving up a hit while making only one out.
Hu, C: 3-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Dunlap: 0-4, 1 BB
Paul: 0-2
Lindsey: 1-1, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Wright: 0-1, 1 K
Ellis: 2-3, 1 BB
Ruan: 2-3, 1 RBI
Ojeda: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 2 HR, 3.60 ERA
Alvarez, C: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Wright: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Riley: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Jacksonville scored all eight runs during a wild sixth in which the Suns more than batted around, sending thirteen men to the plate. The Smokies failed to retire the inning's first six batters; John Lindsey contributed a three-run homer. Carlos Alvarez got the victory in relief, while Wesley Wright and Matt Riley combined to pitch three innings of scoreless ball.
De Jesus: 3-6, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Dewitt: 3-6, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB
May: 3-6, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Hoffmann: 3-5, 1 2B, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Harper: 2-5, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Gutierrez, G: 2-6, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Nicholson: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 K
Guerra: 3.1 IP, 8 R, 4 ER, 5 H, 0 K, 5 BB, 1 HR, 10.80 ERA
Troncoso: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 2.25 ERA
A pair of homers, one each for Blake Dewitt and Lucas May, was only the beginning in this wild, high-scoring game. The amazing thing is that this game was tied 11-11 in the ninth, and then both sides swapped zeros in the tenth. The 66ers then unleashed a four-run deluge in the top of the eleventh, busted open by a Lucas May triple that drove in two. May also doubled, missing the cycle by a single. David Nicholson got plunked twice in a game with five hit batters, four by Mavericks pitchers.
