Jonathan Rouwenhorst, Jason Bulger, and Alex Serrano combined to four-hit the Beavers; it was Rouwenhorst's second start, but his ninth appearance of the year. Brandon Wood went 0-5 in his first game since re-entering the AAA atmosphere. Nick Gorneault and Matt Brown both homered, both two-run shots.

The Wranglers crushed starter Chris Saenz, chasing him in the third after five runs, four earned (one on an error by third baseman Freddy Sandoval); but Sean Rodriguez and Adam Morrissey both had 3-5 nights, and the rest of the offense did its best to catch up, even unto a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth.
2007-04-30: Rancho Cucamonga 4, Visalia 3 #
Coon: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K

Rodriguez: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 2.57 ERA
Brad Coon hit the hard half of a cycle in a close one against the Oaks. Rancho led all the way up to the seventh-inning stretch, but Visalia came back to tie it with a three-run seventh off starter Bobby Mosebach. Francisco Rodriguez claimed the win by pitching two scoreless innings; Ben Johnson's RBI single in the top of the tenth won the game. The Oaks' runs were by a solo homer off the bat of Orlando Mercado (not the Angels' former bullpen catcher) and Derek Bruce's two-run homer.
2007-04-30: Clinton 2, Cedar Rapids 3 #

Cook: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
A 12th-inning victory for the Kernels, who started their rally unexpectedly when Mark Trumbo actually got a hit; he's in the middle of a little three-game streak, so let's enjoy it while it lasts. Matt Sweeney singled, and Hank Conger got a bunt single to load the bases. Julio Perez got a walkoff RBI single up the middle to win it.

P.J. Phillips and Marco Albano each got golden sombreros. Conger had a solo homer, as did Christopher Pettit. Douglas Brandt pitched his first quality start of the season in only his second start of the year.

2007-04-30: Sacramento 6, Las Vegas 3 #
Abreu: 1-6, 2 K
Bigbie: 1-3, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 K
Loney: 1-5
Kemp: 1-4, 1 BB
Young: 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
LaRoche: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 BB
Mays: 7.1 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 3.56 ERA
Hoorelbeke: 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 6.59 ERA
Hamulack: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 4.00 ERA
Alexander: 0.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 12.10 ERA
Tim Hamulack gave up three earned runs in the top of the 11th to let Sacramento beat the 51's. Hamulack gave up a leadoff single to Jason Stokes, plunked the next batter, Lloyd Turner, and then threw away a pickoff toss that allowed Turner and pinch runner Antonio Perez to advance to second and third. Hamulack intentionally walked Donnie Murphy to load the bases, and then struck out Charles Thomas. He gave up an RBI single to Kevin Melillo, which prompted his replacement by Mark Alexander. Alexander coaxed a lineout to short from J.J. Furmaniak, but Hiram Bocachica drove in another two runs.

Joe Mays pitched a very solid seven and a third, striking out six and giving up only two runs, one of them a leadoff solo homer to Melillo in the first.

Larry Bigbie continues to play very well at this level, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded to another club later in the season. Tony Abreu (2-20 in his last two games) cools off his earlier torrid pace, but remains a serious candidate for a callup at third if Wilson Betemit continues to slump. Abreu mostly plays second and short, but the 51's have thrown him in at third from time to time.

Homers by Anthony Raglani and Xavier Paul propelled the Suns past the Biscuits. Mike Megrew lasted long enough to earn the win; Wesley Wright didn't have such a good night.
