Four runs in the second put this one away for Rancho; the scoring included an unexpected Anderson Rosario home run, his first of the season. Hainley Statia had a leadoff homer in the bottom of the fifth.

Anthony Ortega pitched 5.2 innings of one-run ball while living dangerously (seven hits, four walks, only one strikeout). Kevin Lynch continued his excellent relief work, striking out both batters he faced in the top of the eighth and pitching a scoreless ninth.

2007-05-02: Cedar Rapids 3, Clinton 7 #
Bourjos: 1-5, 3 K
Phillips: 0-5, 3 K

Mount: 2-4
Holler: (L, 0-1), 3.0 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 8 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 5.14 ERA
For all the love being shown to Hank Conger, he's off to an awfully tepid start this year. A bad offensive game for the Kernels in which they were unable to get traction against former UC Irvine pitcher Glenn Swanson, who notched his fourth victory while striking out eight and walking only one. Blake Holler took the loss, his first decision of the year in his second start; he didn't get into the fourth.

Hull: (W, 2-0) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1.56 ERA
A wild, see-saw game in Vegas. The 51's took an early 2-0 lead on Matt Kemp's RBI single that drove in Tony Abreu (presently on a four-game hitting streak) and Andy LaRoche's RBI groundout. They scored one more in the third on Matt Kemp's triple and Delwyn Young's double.

Hong-Chih Kuo kept Sacramento off the board for two and a third innings to start the game, but Travis Smith entered and let Sacramento tie it in the three-run fifth. The River Cats took the lead in the sixth on a J.J. Furmaniak (what a great name!) solo homer.

Mark Alexander entered the game in the top of the eighth, walked two and struck out one. With two men still on base, Matt Wilhite relieved the hapless Alexander, and allowed both to score.

Las Vegas came back in the bottom of the eighth to score four runs, all charged to reliever Connor Robertson, who managed only two outs; Andy LaRoche reached on an error, Kelly Stinnett walked, and Tomas Perez drove in LaRoche on an RBI single. Tony Abreu then loaded the bases on a left field single. Larry Bigbie got an RBI groundout to second, and then consecutive singles from James Loney and Matt Kemp pushed over the remaining two runs.

Ahead 7-6 going into the ninth, Yhency Brazoban allowed a single to Charles Thomas and an RBI double to Kevin Melillo to tie the game. After trading zeroes for two innings, Las Vegas scored the game-winner when Tomas Perez got a two-out double, and Tony Abreu cashed him in on a walkoff single to right.
