Three walks to Brandon Wood we'll count as progress. Nathan Haynes' lately hot bat shows no sign of slowing down; over the last week, he's hitting .514/.533/.800 with two homers, a triple, and two doubles. Second baseman Casey Smith, who's having an equally hot week, is hitting .478/.520/.783, and got two hits in this game and an RBI as well.
Salt Lake struck big in a six-run third, but frittered it away in the fourth, fifth, and sixth, giving up the lead in the three-run fifth. The Bees started a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth when R.A. Dickey plunked catcher Ben Johnson; consecutive singles by Haynes, Terry Evans, and Brandon Wood plated three.
Nashville returned fire with a solo homer in the top of the eighth off Steve Shell, but then Johnson nailed Callix Crabbe trying to steal second, the second base stealer he had thrown out.
Brandon Wood got his third walk of the day in the bottom of the frame to load the bases, and Mike Eylward plated two on his RBI single, the game-winner. Jason Bulger struck out two in a scoreless top of the ninth for the save, his first of the year. The unfortunately named Grant Balfour took the loss in relief, and Shell, though he got tagged with a blown save, got the win.
