Scores

2007-05-23: Salt Lake 7, Sacramento 2 #
Haynes: 2-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Evans: 1-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Gorneault: 1-5
Wood: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Brown: 2-4, 1 BB
Budde: 0-1, 2 BB, 1 K
Pavkovich: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Olenberger: (W, 6-1), 7.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 2 HR, 3.30 ERA
With all the A's roster moves, including not a few desperation callups (see above), I expected the lopsided score from Wednesday night's matchup to be the result of some AA starter hurriedly hustled up to Sacramento. Nope. Instead, the Bees slapped around A's top pitching prospect Jason Windsor pretty hard, to the tune of all seven runs, six earned. Windsor, the A's seventh-ranked prospect according to the latest Baseball America 2007 Prospect Handbook, gave up crooked numbers in three innings, enough for the Bees to take a commanding 7-1 lead by the middle of the sixth. Windsor, a former CSUF product, took his fifth loss of the season and owns a 5.40 ERA.

Kasey Olenberger got the win, and at 6-1 is tied for the PCL in victories. The two runs he gave up were on solo homers to Kevin Melillo and Daric Barton. Mark Kotsay was 0-for-4 in his third rehab game with the River Cats.

2007-05-23: Corpus Christi 2, Arkansas 0 #
Morrissey: 1-2, 2 BB
Rodriguez, S: 1-4, 2 K
Porter: 3-4
Collins: 0-3, 1 BB
Rodriguez, F: 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 7 K, 2 BB, 2.14 ERA
Lynch: (L, 1-1) (in relief), 0.1 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 5.19 ERA
Arredondo: 0.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.20 ERA
Rodriguez, R: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 6.26 ERA
The Travs and Hooks traded zeroes through seven, until Corpus Christi broke through in the top of the eighth for two. The Travs actually outhit the Hooks 6 to 5 and loaded the bases with two out on a Michael Collins walk in the bottom of the fourth but failed to score. Fernando Rodriguez, Jr. got a no-decision in his strongest start of the year, while Kevin Lynch was tagged with the loss.
2007-05-23: Bakersfield 5, Rancho Cucamonga 7 #
Statia: 0-4, 1 K
Sutton: 2-4
Renz: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Remole: 2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Reilly: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Rodriguez: (W, 2-1), 5.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 5 BB, 4.14 ERA
Hunter: 2.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 2.70 ERA
Rancho scored three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, and they turned out to be important as Devin O'Day surrendered his first two earned runs of the year but got the save anyway, his ninth.

Jordan Renz, Clifton Remole, and Patrick Reilly all homered. Renz's fourth-inning solo homer was his eighth, leading the team in that category. Unfortunately, his .265/.324/.457 line isn't that impressive in the Cal League. Remole's eighth inning three-run shot was the difference-maker in the game; Reilly's shot was a leadoff homer in the bottom of the fifth.

2007-05-23: Dayton 6, Cedar Rapids 5 #
Mount: 3-5, 1 K
Trumbo: 1-4, 1 RBI
Conger: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Johnson: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K
Phillips: 1-4, 1 K
Haynes: 3.0 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 5.11 ERA
Holler: (L, 0-3) (in relief), 4.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 3 BB, 2 HR, 4.44 ERA
Browning: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 6.00 ERA
Blake Holler allowed back-to-back homers in the top of the seventh to Chris Valaika and Juan Francisco to lose a game that the Kernels had led from the third inning on. Starter Jeremy Haynes has not gotten out of the fourth inning in all of his last three starts. Ben Johnson homered in the loss.

2007-05-23: Las Vegas 6, Tacoma 0 #
Garcia: 1-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Kemp: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 K
Young: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Huckaby: 2-4, 1 2B, 3 RBI
Kuo: 4.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 2.35 ERA
Stults: (W, 4-4) (in relief), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 6.75 ERA
Hong-Chih Kuo took on a starting role in a four-inning duplex start; between him and Eric Stults, 51's pitching combined for a five-hitter of Tacoma. Kuo is being stretched out so he can join the Dodgers rotation at some point in the future.

Sergio Garcia's three-run homer in the seventh capped the scoring in that five-run frame.

2007-05-23: Jacksonville 11, Tennessee 16 #
Hu, C: 0-2
Paul: 1-2
Lindsey: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 K
Dunlap: 0-3, 2 BB
McDougall: 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Raglani: 1-2, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 3 BB
Orenduff, J: 0-1, 1 K
Alexander: 0-1
Martinez: 1-1, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Orenduff, J: (L, 0-1), 2.2 IP, 7 R, 3 ER, 9 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 2 HR, 3.21 ERA
Alexander: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 7.71 ERA
Another slugfest in which the pitching wasn't quite enough. Despite homers from Marshall McDougall, Anthony Raglani, and Octavio Martinez's pinch-hit three-run blast, Suns pitching wasn't up to the task. Justin Orenduff got shelled; this is not unusual for him, and in fact he has yet to post a quality start despite seven tries.
