Roster Notes
- The Mariners placed Jeff Weaver on the 15-day DL with shoulder tendinitis. Now if only they could do something about that inflamed ERA.
- So how would the Angels be doing with Troy Glaus these days? He's just pulled up lame after running out a fly ball; he had a foot injury earlier in the season. The Blue Jays have suffered a lot of injuries to key personnel this year, including extended downtime for B.J. Ryan, who needed Tommy John surgery, and Roy Halliday, who has appendicitis and will miss 4-6 weeks.
- Nick Swisher and the A's have agreed on a $26.75/5-year deal.
- The A's activated Milton Bradley from the 15-day DL, and optioned OF Danny Putnam to AAA Sacramento.
- Dave Roberts will undergo elbow surgery to remove bone chips.
- Update: Phil Nevin has retired, and what an odd career he had: a first overall pick in 1992, he started his professional career in AAA, stayed there for three years, came up to the Astros, singled in his first at-bat, and proceeded to annoy them to the point they eventually traded him to the Tigers. He was briefly an Angel, after learning to catch; the Angels had enough of him after one season, and shipped him to the Padres after 20 passed balls in 1998. There, he finally put it all together, for three years, mostly at third, but with some residual time at first and behind the dish. 2004 was his last decent year with the Pads, though he stuck around through 2005, and wore the uniforms of the Cubs, Rangers, and Twins before hanging 'em up.
