Tomato Powers Dodgers Past Juan More Bobble: Dodgers 2, Diamondbacks 1

Nomar got the day off, which was probably for the best considering he was 3-15 over his last three games. Livan Hernandez, the Diamondbacks' slow-pitching golem who somehow still manages to get out of jams with an 86 MPH fastball and — if you believe the stadium gun — high-50's changeups held the Dodgers to just one run. Brad Penny more or less matched him, through Hernandez gave up more hits and walks.

The Dodgers won the game on Olmedo Saenz' pinch-hit walkoff RBI single off of Brandon Lyon, but that's not the play I really find most compelling; it was Orlando Hudson's single right at centerfielder Juan Pierre. Pierre looked at the ball like he was afraid of it, crouched down on his knees and skittered about, crab-like, until the ball bounced in front of him. It then ricocheted off his glove into left-center, and he had to run and fetch it. Meantime, Eric Byrnes easily scored from third. Pierre's glove just never ceases to amaze me. In a bad way.

Stadium gun isn't accurate. If you watch gameday and see the "Pitch F/X" speed you will find that it is guaranteed at least 1 mile per hour faster than the stadium radar. Pitch F/X gives the true speed of the ball.
