Two Games
Not Fade Away: Angels 6, Rangers 3
Lackey did great through eight, and well, at some point you just have to realize pitch counts are really only estimates. Sammy Sosa's doing much better than I thought he would, and ripped a blast off Lackey that knocked him out of the game, and Shields came in to restore order. The Angels scored a pair in the third, and lucked into a couple of their runs in the fifth when Gary Matthews, Jr.'s tailor-made double-play ball scooted under Ian Kinsler's glove; it was all the scoring the Angels needed, but they tacked two more on against Ron Mahay on a Kendry Morales double and Chone Figgins' scoring double play ball.
Martin, Martin, He's Our Man: Dodgers 2, Reds 0
Juan Pierre and Nomar Garciaparra going a combined 5-for-7 made up for Furcal's 0-fer; Russ Martin drove in 100% of the Dodgers' runs, and with Randy Wolf whiffing 11 Reds (and a total of 13 Red strikeouts), there wasn't much going wrong for the Dodgers, unless you count the 5-7-8 batters all having an 0-fer night.Labels: angels, dodgers, rangers, recaps, reds
