Winning Ugly Beats 0-11: Dodgers 9, Cardinals 7

If the Dodgers were to drop this one, it would have been 0-11 since the last victory against St. Louis, a 7-5 win on July 29, 2005. Derek Lowe was less-than-great, but held on for four earned runs through five and a third innings. The real key was the team's offensive outburst after the Cards pasted four runs on the board in the top of the third, posting six runs against Cardinals pitching, three of them on a bases-loaded triple by Rafael Furcal. Furcal was clearly the offensive star of the game, going 4-5 tonight and making him 14-20 in his last four games. All but one of those six runs in the sixth were charged to starter Adam Wainwright, who gave up eight runs, all earned.

The Cards threatened again in the seventh, when Hong-Chih Kuo was brought in to the game to relieve in what should have been a blowout. Kuo promptly gave up three runs, all earned, while making only one out.
