All Your Base Are Belong To Us: Padres 1, Dodgers 0
Of the several games I paid attention to yesterday, this was by far the most interesting, mainly due to the division opponent (against whom the Dodgers started the day a half game ahead in the standings) and the pitching matchup. Russ Martin's rare baserunning blunder notwithstanding, the Dodgers kept it interesting as two punchless offenses tried to poke through for a win, and at the wrong time, Rudy Seanez hit Russell Branyan right on the toe. Branyan, who had no stolen bases all year, nabbed second, and then Marcus Giles singled him home. With the maw that is the Padres' bullpen, and Trevor Hoffman in particular, awaiting the Dodgers, that was the end of the game right there.
Jon's comment about the game really being the Jason Schmidt show was directly true, and his observation about Nomar being on pace for a record bad year for a Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman is also true. But what I found interesting was this San Diego Union-Tribune piece with this tidbit:
Before last night's game, Dodgers GM Ned Colletti and Tony Attanasio, the agent for Ichiro Suzuki, chatted for more than an hour. Suzuki, the Mariners' leadoff man and center fielder, is eligible for free agency in November. The Padres are among the teams that covet him.He would be an immediate and huge upgrade over Juan Pierre. However, since Pierre's DFA isn't likely, this comes a year too late. For this year, Padres GM Kevin Towers thinks it will take "[a]t least 90" wins to take the NL West. Baseball Prospectus is currently projecting the NL West winner as having a surprisingly high 95-67 record.

I miss the retro game day links. Is there a standard syntax I can use to get the games? I tried taking the last one:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2006/gd.html?2007_05_25_anamlb_nyamlb_1&brand=mlb
you had and update it for today's game:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2006/gd.html?2007_06_06_anamlb_minmlb_1&brand=mlb
and it started to come up, but then stalled out and said "Gameday is temporarily unavailable..."
Let me know if there's a standard syntax or a way to get the link myself. Thanks.
