Angels Promote Greg Porter To AAA Salt Lake
In what is perhaps a sign that Kendry Morales' promotion is more than a passing fad, the Angels have promoted first baseman Greg Porter to AAA Salt Lake, his first appearance at that level. Porter, previously a third baseman, was in his third year playing in the Texas League. He was bypassed for the Texas League All-Star Game; he had a .294/.343/.415 line as of this morning.
Porter played for Texas A & M in college, and was a 45th-round draftee in 2001.
In an accompanying move, the Angels moved LHP Brad Beck from Arkansas back down to Rancho Cucamonga. Beck had a 1-0 record in four appearances with a 3.38 ERA for the Travs.
Update: Matt Welch had earlier speculated that the thing to do with Shea Hillenbrand was to unload him and play Kendry as the regular DH. This makes sense to me, and given that Porter is a full-time first baseman, it might be a sign that the Angels are thinking about doing exactly that.
