Dodgers' Scapegoat Hitting Coach Eddie Murray Gone, Replaced By Bill Mueller
Look, this may sound hypocritical considering how much I think Mickey Hatcher needs to go, but given the offensive failures of Nedquisitions Nomar Garciaparra, Jeff Kent, and the catastrophic subtraction-by-addition of Juan Pierre (both offensively and defensively), Eddie Murray's replacement by Bill Mueller as Dodgers' hitting coach was as inexorable as it was meaningless. Dodger Thoughts regular Gold Star for Robot Boy introduced the news at BTF thusly:
Sure, LA’s offense hasn’t been setting the world on fire, but isn’t that to be somewhat expected with a roster of declining veterans (Nomar, Kent, Gonzo), a destructive acquisition (Juan Pierre) and a bunch of kids?Jon has more on this in the context of Jack Clark, the goat for the 2003 squad's failings.Even weirder is the timing. In a three-game sweep of the Mets, the Dodgers banged out 31 hits for 18 runs.
For the season, the team’s EQA is .255 - 12th in the National League and 22nd overall. (Of the bottom nine, the NL West has three: LA, Arizona and San Francisco.)

Eddie got canned by the Indians - he is not exactly Mister Personality and he issues outside of on-field results are certain to have played the bigger role in this.
Rob, what do you want from Hatch? The Angeles are fourth in the bigs in runs scored this year. With that line-up that's pretty amazing.
As far as Eddie goes, I don't know what could be expected with that line-up. To me, the Dodgers are performing about as expected on offensive - which is a little better than average in the league and they've scored the most runs in the Western Division. I don't understand the move at all, and feel bad for the guy.
