Jason Schmidt Done For The Season
Jason Schmidt is done for the season after exploratory surgery found he had a torn labrum and a frayed biceps tendon. (Also at dodgers.com.) He might be able
to pitch by spring training of next year; in the meantime, Chad
Billingsley will replace him in the rotation.
"With all due respect, he hasn't thrown well," Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti said. "It's not as if he was on his way to a Cy Young season and suddenly you lost him."Reports of declining velocity and command issues weren't enough? The Giants not giving him an offer wasn't enough?...
"Had we any inkling that this was going to be happening in the middle of June, I doubt if we would have went forward with it," Colletti said of the signing. "You can't predict. All you can do is look at previous performance, look at how many innings somebody throws, how many strikes they make, what an MRI shows. The MRIs are almost identical going back for a few years."
Jon has more, including several links to articles about labrum injuries.
